Is Newt-mentum returning?... Even if so, Gingrich faces two challenges: time and math Romneys wealth and Bain Capital have been THE story in the GOP race for the past 10 days (and counting) Are the first Obama TV ads going up? If so, they will come earlier than the first Clinton and Bush ads did in their re-election years And Dem convention goes from four days to three days, creating a potential speaking-scheduling problem.
*** Newt-mentum returns? There are some increasing signs -- though all of it anecdotal for now -- that Newt Gingrich is gaining some momentum three days before the South Carolina primary. First was his strong debate performance on Monday, from which his campaign cut a new TV ad. Second, the Romney campaign today is holding a conference call (featuring former Sen. Jim Talent and former Rep. Susan Molinari) with the sole purpose of hitting Gingrich, and we havent seen one of those from the Romney camp since Iowa. And third, Sarah Palin sort of endorsed Gingrich last night, saying per NBCs Alex Moe: If I had to vote in South Carolina, in order to keep this thing going, Id vote for Newt and I would want this to continue. Gingrichs top spokesman responded to the Palin news this way: We think its a pretty darn clear call to arms. Is Newt-mentum for real? Well find out tomorrow morning from our brand-new NBC-Marist poll of South Carolina.

On the other hand... This is just as likely to be MSNBC just pimping their poll.
Romney has always known that his only real threat has been Gingrich, which was why he launched that vicious ad campaign in Iowa. Expect things to get really ugly now.
Up until then it was 24/7 poll numbers, now crickets. Newt must have really surged, more than we know.
Much the same way Herman Cain had from the beginning
We've just cast our early ballots for Newt here in Florida
.
The more people see Newt, the more they lean in his direction.
All he needs is more exposure, the MSM knows this and will seek to limit his exposure as much as possible.
When a fat little white haired man causes this reaction in people it is rare indeed!
Churchill had the same effect, and was also flawed and far from pretty.
The needle on the Newtometer got pegged at the far right and is now stuck. They are working on getting it loose, for an accurate poll, you see.
Yep, I see. lol, I think your right about that, BUT I WANT TO SEE IT ANYWAY, dmit.
Internals are the best polls money can buy, and politicians spend real money for internal polls. Reporters around the campaigns can pick up the vibe from those who have access to the internals and it starts to bleed out.
What does this tell me? Romney’s camp is remaining calm, and Gingrich’s people are getting fired up. That means there is a surge in the internals for Gingrich... and Romney has a lot of professionals on staff.
If Gingrich doesn’t win South Carolina outright, he will likely be very close to Romney, and it will be a two man fight from here on out. Unfortunately, you cannot lose your way into the nomination, so if he doesn’t win South Carolina, it’s a matter of trying to prevent Romney from securing 1144 and making the Convention decide.
And a few other challenges like Neut is a completely unprinicipled scoundrel who will say anything to get elected, but then will go hard left liberal once he has the chance. This is the true Neut
Foxnews just showed a Poll with Romney a measly 3% ahead of Newt! GO NEWT GO!
Newt could be in the position Romney is now if he had stayed on the course he started on when he shot from singles digits to the top. Keep his broadside fire on Obama, talk about his accomplishments while Speaker of the House, and give those magnificent orations that inspire standing ovations like he did at the last debate. Instead he followed the lead of the other candidates and turned his broadsides on Mitt. You want to know what broke Mitt out of the 24% cap? - being attacked relentlessly. Coming from his own party or not, GOPers chose to rally around the only candidate that was not sounding petty and desperate, when they were looking for someone in control and in charge.
Is it to late for Newt? We forget that this is a race to get delegates not who can win the first three or four states. Romney won 17 delegates to date, and he is very likely to win SC and FL, but Newt can stay on his heels and overcome him if he gives us the Newt we saw last debate.
On what planet?
Newt tanked AFTER Romney’s broadsides, BEFORE the counter attack.
True, the Bain attacks were counter produtrive, but the real damage was already done.
Remember that SC is a open primary. The Democrats and Independents will vote enmasse for Paul, giving him the appearance of more support than he has. That will encourage him, and he doesn’t need much, to run as a third party Independent and syphon some votes from the Republicans.
Democrats are voting for Romney not Paul. Every democrat I know thinks Paul is nuts. He cuts into thier entitlements and is anti-union. They don’t mind Romney, even if he wins the general election they would be happy since he pretty much R’obama’ny.
So you are pulling for Romney? Seriously. Nobody is saying Newt is perfect, and he has already addressed that. To ONCE AGAIN bring that up means one thing ... that you would prefer Romney over Newt. If you dont prefer Romney ... then drop it.
If somebody prefers Romney over Newt, then they prefer Obama to Newt, because if Romney is the nominee, that is what they are going to get.
What is it about you newters that makes you want to supress the truth? Never mind I can't stand either Neut or Mittens and I sure as hell don't care what your opinion is.
That’s ridiculous. The only one running a positive campaign was Gingrich, and he was running well. But after Romney launched the vicious personal attack videos on him in Iowa, he sank to the point where the non-descript, nebbishy Santorum even got ahead (truly showing you how little people like or want Romney). I think it actually took Gingrich by surprise, since he had been stressing attacking Obama and not the other candidates.
Gingrich came back with a hit vid of his own, and actually, I think it did rattle Romney and at least made people start looking at Romney’s actual record and not what he said it was. Romney had never gotten any scrutiny before that, and I think he’s not doing very well with it now.
And now Gingrich can abandon that approach and go back to what he did Monday night, positive campaigning. But I think he’s watching his back now and wouldn’t trust Romney as far as he could throw him.
Amazing what several mil in BS ads can do.
WOW. What a damning image!!!! HOLY CRAP!!
Where has it been hiding for all these years!
Why oh why haven’t you released it before................../s
