Poll shows Perry losing Texas, in third place

From Public Policy Polling, this is really bad news for Rick Perry -- although at this point it cannot be unexpected:

Rick Perry's Presidential campaign is doing about as bad in Texas now as it is everywhere else in the country. When PPP last polled the state in September he was at 49%, leading Mitt Romney by 39 points. Now Perry's support has declined by 31 points, leaving him in 3rd place at 18%. Mitt Romney at 24% and Newt Gingrich at 23% lead the way with Rick Santorum at 15%, Ron Paul at 12%, and Buddy Roemer at 0% rounding out the field behind Perry.

What might be most shocking on this poll is that Romney edges Perry 46-45 if Republican voters had to pick just between the two of them. When we asked that identical question four monhs ago Perry led Romney 72-18. There's been a 55 point shift in Romney's direction.

A 60% approval rating for the job done and the best amongst a field of candidates are vastly different items.

But the Perry clingers will continue to ride him until they all collectively go broke trying to keep this zombie campaign alive.

Many are more enamored with his looks than with his politics. You can tell by the way they post. Picture after picture of him, as if looks mattered. It's extremely strange behavior that reminds me a lot of how liberals slobbered all over John Edwards. It's also why they refuse to accept the undeniable fact that their hero is polling in single digits and dropping meaning he will never be POTUS.

exans are seriously angry with Perry. In one of the debates (on statewide television) when re was runnin for his 3rd term as governor, the moderator asked him point blank if he would serve a full term if reelected. Perry promised that he would.

His numbers here have been in the tank here in Texas ever since he broke that promise.

Let’s cut to the chase. You were very polite in saying all of that, but I’m willing to sum it up:

He’s a liar. (As politicians tend to be.)

Seriously, Rick, it’s time to drop out and concede to Newt. At this point, all Perry can do is help hand it all to Romney.

Texas is an open primary. Poll internals: 72% say they’re Republican, 36% say they consider themselves to be a member of the Tea Party. Perry’s 60% job approval is strong, that would be about 83% if it were a poll of only Republicans.

So it’s not about conservatism as much as it is about winning. Shifting from candidate to candidate doesn’t advance the cause, IMO.

It has been inferred that Perry’s continuation of the campaign has more to do with outside forces pushing him to do so and not necessarily due to his own desire.

Is that the type of person we want as POTUS, a person who lacks independent thinking and makes decisions based on undue influence from outside pressure?

No. It’s about conservatism. I wouldn’t support Romney just because he was ahead, because he’s not a conservative. But if it’s 2 conservatives with only slight differences, I’ll pick the one who can win.

Hell....outside influences were required to get him into the race. Who wants a guy that has to be pushed and prodded all the time?

Perry's between a rock and a hard place----damned if he does---damned if he doesn't.

EXHIBIT A---Perry did NOT campaign in NH AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.

EXHIBIT B---However, Perry DID campaign in Iowa---AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.

----In NH, Perry spent $6 million--the most of any candidate,

----Perry ran around in two campaign buses,

----Perry held numerous campaign events,

---- glad-handed thousands of Iowans,

----Perry ran non-stop ads touting his conservative credentials,

----Perry trucked in 1000 Texans for groundwork,

----Perry campaigned with California legislators and other high-level supporters

----PERRY FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.

You must have a pretty reliable crystal ball. Or maybe not, since you’re having to change horses. IMO, Romney’s chances are better if the field narrows too quickly; he has the resources. Obama wants to know who his opponent will be ASAP for the same reason.

Newt won the debate last night, but Perry did very well. Too bad we didn’t see this Perry early on.

And it is too late now? Why?

Quite frankly, I would just as soon Rick Perry were President of the Republic of Texas and we could just tell the rest of the country to buzz off.

Like I have said before, the PPP is a democrat ran poll. No way in 40 hells Perry is losing to the New England liberal in Texas.
