Greek Maritime history DOES have a women and children first.
In fact you will find quite a few Greek Officers on cruise ships. (with a few thousand islands making up your nation a maritime tradition is inevitable, they even decorate small ships for Christmas :-))

The ferry with bow doors that failed was the
Estonia. Sank in the Baltic with hundreds of deaths. I don't think there were any accusations of cowardice on the part of the crew in that case. Mistakes that contributed to the sinking, yes. Cowardice, no.
The liner that the Greek captain and crew abandoned and left the passengers to their fate was the Oceanos which sank off of South Africa. Everyone was saved though, no thanks to the captain.
