I’d chain the guy to the rocks overlooking the ship until it is salvaged.

Francesco Schettino seems to be completely oblivious to how much of a contemptible worm he is.
There was a teenage boy on that liner who could have evacuated immediately, but chose to make himself a human ladder for others to crawl over to safety.
If 12 years is truly all Schettino gets, there is no justice in Italy.

This captain deserves what he gets. He will never be allowed back to any water, he’ll be lucky if he is allowed to take a shower.

The PA guy should have used the magic words.

What is it with Italian ship captains?
there was another cruise ship that sunk several years ago and the captain was first off the shop.
Whne questioned he said he told the people to get off. then he left.
this is despicable.

Wow. The port authority guy totally went R. Lee Ermey on Captain Schettino’s ass. That is amazing.

This so-called captain sounds like he’s the President of the Bruce Ismay fanclub. Coward!

Thank god this didn't happen farther out to sea.
Can you imagine this guy coordinating offshore rescue ops, instead of from a position where at least a portion of passengers could swim to safety, or could get to safety quickly?
Makes me wonder about the competency of other cruise captains.

Doesn't this Capt look like a spineless coward and greasy Eurotrash? I'm sure he was driving the rescue boat in circles sipping wine with his crew, looking busy to avoid doing the right thing.
I wouldn't trust this sleaze to captain a taxi ride around Rome.

Captain: Do you realize it's dark out here and we can't see anything?
PA: Do you want to go home? It's dark, so you want to go home?
The PA couldn't even shame the coward back on board.

Wow... Not exactly a “take-charge” sort of guy, is he?
I wonder what his history is. The ship captains I’ve known are some pretty salty old hands, crusty and hard to rattle. This guy seems like he’s green as a cabin boy.

Drudge has posted a video on the gCaptain website. the video was taken from a restaurant on Giglio Island and shows how dangerously close the Costa Concordia was to the shoreline as it blew its horn three times.
The Captain is screwed.

I don’t know who this guy is , but he is no ship’s Captain.
He says the ship is tilting.Any ship officer would say “listing”.
Maybe his Mama owns the ship.
Another thing he say’s his second officer is there with him. What’s he doing there? He is as bad as the Captain.

Did they do a blood test on the so-called “captain?” Reading the conversation, it sounds like the captain is drunk or on drugs. He’s not responding like a normal person at all.
