Romney Denialists
American Thinker ^ | January 17, 2012 | Gene Schwimmer

Posted on 01/17/2012 8:22:06 AM PST by BuckeyeTexan

Though I have yet to read anything on the Internet that caused me literally to bash my laptop computer into the nearest available hard surface, comments like this, in the comments section of a popular conservative website, come pretty close:

Oh no we won't. The GOP has been forcing us to choose their candidates. No thank you.

As most of you reading this probably have already guessed, the "oh no he won't" the commenter is vowing is that he won't unite behind Mitt Romney should the ex-gov of Mass win the GOP nomination.

Well, let me be the first to break the news to Mr. Oh-No-I-Wouldn't: Oh, yes, you will. You may say you won't, you may even think it. But when the bell tolls midnight on November 5 and the Ghost of America in Decline Future forces you to confront the prospect of four more years of Barack Obama, the nanosecond dawn breaks on the 6th, you will propel yourself from your bed like the proverbial bat out of hell and pull the "R" lever - yes - even if the label next to it says "Romney."

Or maybe I'm wrong and this commenter really, truly will never vote for Mitt Romney, no way, no how. In which case, he's definitely in the right political party. "The Stupid Party" is not an appellation they just give to a political party; it must be earned.

Apparently, this guy believes that remaining loyal to “the party”, regardless of what “the party” has come to stand for, is THE most important thing a voter can do.

Far too many folks do remain loyal to "the party" regardless of how far left it shifts. The Tea Party movement is about the only thing to stand in the way of GOP sliding ever leftward.

Just stop and think for a moment: Imagine the Tea Party movement had never taken off and had no influence on the 2010 elections. The GOP would be a lot more left-leaning that it is now.

If Romney gets the nomination, and that's a big if, I think it will be the final signal to Conservatives that we are no longer welcome at the table. It will be a very painful lesson to the GOP.

Unless the others drop out and let Newt go head to head with Mitt, there is no serious challenge to Mitt. He is better organized, better disciplined and makes few errors. Actually, those should be pretty important to us.
What us? You do not speak for "us" at the point you begin to pimp shamelessly for a creep like Romney. Further: I don't care about Romney's alleged "discipline" and "organization," especially since the only achievement to date of Romney's "discipline" is RomneyCare with all its new rules, new taxes, its assumptions about the state supervision of private economic activity to support progressive goals, and its mandates, a program functionally identical to ObamaCare.

Everybody just needs to see Ann Barnhardt tell it like it is.

Is it possible that conservatives have become a minority?

No, that is not the case. Conservatives are a majority. But conservative candidates all proved to be poor at the job of being presidential candidates. All of them - Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Gingrich, Santorum.

On the other hand, Romney and Paul are both very competent at the job as a presidential candidate. In presidential primary (as elsewhere) competence trumps incompetence.

Here are some areas where Romney is beating his opponents hands down:

- deliberate planning of the presidential run (6 years by now)
- building a network of supporters
- helping GOP candidates win elections (Nikki Haley, Kelly Ayotte) whose endorsements helped
- diligent and successful fundraiser
- disciplined debater
- hired competent campaign team
- only candidate with a strategy to beat his opponents in the primary

That's half of the victory, or more when your opponents are clueless about running a presidential campaign. Now, hypothetically, take away these assets / management skills from Romney and give them to an one the conservative candidates. We would have a lopsided win by the conservative candidate, and Romney with half of the Huntsman vote.

in Virginia, our choices in the 2012 republican primary will be Mitt Romney or Ron Paul. They are the only two ‘republicans’ who will be on the ballot.

It could not be a better punch line to my post #84 to highlight the competence of Romney / Paul vs. incompetence of the rest of the field.

Among key conservative values are resilience, problem solving, and a willingness to deal with reality instead of simply whining about a situation.

Great post.
