Tax return slippery slope (Romney's not so subtle problem)
Legal Insurrection ^ | 1/17/2012 | William Jacobson

I saw this coming from a mile away.

Mitt Romney’s original position that he would not release his income tax returns, a position he held to for several weeks, now is slipping.

At the debate last night Romney gave a convoluted answer that he “probably” would release the tax returns in April — after he likely will have wrapped up the nomination if he stays on the current trajectory. The answer was cringe-worthy:
**snip**

Newt is not letting it go:

"Newt Gingrich says Mitt Romney should release his tax returns before primary voters head to the polls in South Carolina on Saturday.

“It’s interesting that Romney agreed that he ought to release his income taxes but he doesn’t want to do it until April,” Gingrich said Tuesday on CBS. “I think the people of South Carolina ought to know now – if there’s nothing there, why hide it until April, and if there’s something there, don’t the people of South Carolina deserve to know before Saturday?”

At this point Newt and the others don’t need to convince people there is a problem in the tax returns — they just need to plant seeds of doubt as to Romney’s general election electability which influence voters on Saturday.

"Can’t find it on Google now, imagine that..."

There was a very good article on Wikipedia during the 2008 primary election season on the subject "RINO". It listed a list of I believe ten current RINO's, including Mitt Romney, Olympia Snowe, Sen. Collins (ME), and others. The entry is still there, talks about 1930's, Thomas Dewey......Oddly, no mention of Mitt, Collins, Snowe, et al.....

"John McCain was still a guest in the Hanoi Hilton when he first became a U.S. Senator. He's been drawing a huge salary, huge benefits and doesn't even have to maintain a second home in the DC area since the press made him a hero for commuting via Amtrak. "

John McCain commutes from AZ to DC via Amtrak? How long does a trip take? And how could he even run for senator if he was still in Viet Nam?

Mitt should release his tax returns.

Has Newt ever released his consulting contract with Freddie Mac?

Sounds like the pot calling the kettle metal.

I don’t personally care about his tax returns...but I do wonder about how Mitt is handling this whole issue. Such a weasel.

I do wonder though, if the whole I will release, maybe, sort of, in April...maybe this year or next year.. is so that Mitt can release the santized 2011 return? Versus say, the returns for the last 20 years which may show something he thinks will hurt him in the general?

I do believe ol’ Mitt is taking the nomination as his rightful due. Mitt reminds me of ‘that’ guy at work who thinks his stuff don’t stink.

Mitt deserves to be beat up for a lot of stuff, but nothing as trivial as releasing a tax return.

If Obama was as dodgy about his tax returns as Willard is, you'd be livid.
