(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) -- Amid continued pressure from his rivals to make public his tax returns, Mitt Romney said at a Republican presidential candidates debate Monday night that he will "probably" release that information in April.
That timetable is in line with tradition of past nominees, who have released their information around tax day in early April.
"I have nothing in them that suggests there is any problem," he said. "I'm happy to do so."
Romney had said as recently as last Wednesday that he doesn't feel the need to do anything more than the law requires him to do, which is reveal his assets.
Rick Perry took the lead in assailing the former Massachusetts governor, accusing him of dodging the question of tax records and called on him to release them before a nominee is decided.
"My income tax have been out every year. Newt [Gingrich], I think you will let your income tax come out Thursday. And Mitt, we need for you to release your income tax so the people of this country can see how you made your money," the Texas governor said. "Here's the real issue for us as Republicans. We cannot fire our nominee in September. We need to know now."
Listen to the video again, he said he’d release them in the “upcoming” year. That is 2013 folks, not this April. You been had!
Romney was also stuttering when Santorum asked him if convicted felons who have served their time, probation, etc should have their voting rights restored.
PS: Romney never once disavowed the lies his PACs put out against others. Gingrich called on his PACs to stop, but Romney refuses because he is benefitting from it, even if they are full of lies.
He also mentioned the felons voting after they “leave office”.

It’s no different than saying, we just cannot have a nominee that is known for firing people rather than known for creating jobs.
It doesn’t mean literally CANNOT.
To say we cannot remove a nominee in September doesn’t mean we CANNOT.
What would have to happen is the person would have to be persuaded into withdrawing from the race because of whatever...it would be something THAT bad.
The Convention could nominate someone else if that person’s delegates were released because they were no longer a candidate.
But that’s not the point. Would you in your worst nightmares be comfortable with our position against Obama and the Dems if something so bad came up, our presumptive nominee had to step aside?

I immediately caught his “might release his tax records” statement as the verbal vomit spewed from his mouth.
Has anyone really noticed and asked the question: “How can he breath when he speaks so fast and long that his sentences reach a 1,000 words in a single breath. He is an absolute “motor mouth.”
Did anybody throw McCain into a rubber room when he told us all “not to fear an Obama presidency”?

You know, I would prefer Governor Perry to be at the top of the ticket because he brings so much to the table that isn’t Washington. He doesn’t even owe the Texas crowd (Rove) a thing. His manner is likeable. Much like Reagan’s demeanor, his style is refreshing. He’s a proven team player. He’s distinquished by military service and a lifelong commitment to God and country. You don’t find much that indicates a life spent searching for the right people or the right religion. He’s stable. He literally loves the land because he grew up on it. He knows first hand our immigration (invasion) problems. I honestly feel we could sell a team to the public. Perry carries the potential for all the positive images and ability. Aside from being skilled, he’s attractive. Gingrich has been around the block so many times, he knows everything and I think that’s a huge asset in some capacity. Hang in there, Governor Perry. Don’t let anyone talk you into jettisoning a race for the convenience of someone else’s campaign. You da man!

Romney is not my guy, but I think this is exactly the wrong way to go. His opponents should stick to hammering Romney on the ways he is like Obama, e.g., Romneycare.
Yammering about Mitt’s wealth makes them sound like a bunch of lefties. They all need to focus on what BHO has done to our country and talk about how they will reverse the damage.
I would like to hear one of the candidates ask Mitt this question, “You often refer to your losses on big issues in Massachusetts as a result of having to deal with an 85% democrat legislature. Knowing that, if elected, how would you deal with a possible takeover of the Congress by the democrats in 2014? Could you do a better job of fighting democrats on big issues at the federal level than you did at the state level and if so what would make the difference?

I see no scenario where the GOP establishment would give up their chosen nominee. Not one. He's never seriously held to account. He's never beaten around the ears news cycle after news cylce -- BUT HE WILL BE if he is the GOP nominee!
BTW -- Did anyone hear Romney say he'd seal the border last night?
And if his position on healthcare [as described in the link below] isn't vetted, no policy position or flip-flop will be examined by his supporters who are jamming Mitt down our throats [like the "string" example you gave LL above in Post#10]
July 16, 2011: Romney Adviser Backs Obama Health Exchanges
SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt, a top supporter and adviser of Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney, strenuously backed the core piece of President Barack Obama’s health-care law and urged the states to move forward together in adopting health insurance exchanges.
Speaking to a bipartisan group of governors at the National Governors Association, the former Republican governor who served as secretary of health and human services in the Bush administration, called the exchanges where individuals and small businesses can purchase health plans “a very practical solution to a problem that needs to be solved.” He warned governors who are reluctant to move forward with their state-level exchanges that their intransigence will only empower federal regulators.
And he said the health care law that passed is a compromise that gives the states the flexibility they need.
“This is a profoundly important time for the states,” said Mr. Leavitt. “States need to lead.”
The comments came at a time when every major Republican presidential candidate has pledged to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the president’s health care law. For former Massachusetts Gov. Romney, the issue is extra sensitive: the health care plan he secured for Massachusetts included an exchange almost identical to the federal law. He has tried to tightrope through the issue, blasting the federal law as he defends his own.
The federal law gives the states until January 2014 to set up their own exchanges, with federal oversight. If they fail to do so, their citizens will get access to a federal exchange.
But some Republican governors have been reluctant. They oppose the federal law and say they hope it will be repealed by a Republican president in 2013. glossed over and this gets scant coverage, they'll give Romney a pass on anything.

"With the signature of Gov. Rick Perry today, Texas has joined three other states stating their intention to enter into a health care compact.
The compact, which would challenge the authority of the federal government to dictate the terms of the federally and state funded Medicaid program, was part of a wide-ranging health care reform bill, Senate Bill 7, passed by the Texas Legislature in its recently concluded special session.
Georgia, Oklahoma and Missouri have already signed onto the compacts movement, with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signing a bill into law on Thursday.
The law establishes Texas, along with the other three states, as pioneers in an uncharted use of Article 1, Section 10 of the Constitution which allows states to enter into agreements that, with the approval of Congress, cannot be abridged by the federal government. There are more than 200 state compacts currently in effect, nearly all of them related to commerce.”…..
August 8, 2011: Kansas returns health insurance exchange grant WASHINGTON, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Kansas became on Tuesday the second U.S. state to return a large federal grant meant to help it create a prototype health insurance exchange as part of the Obama administration's healthcare overhaul.
Republican Governor Sam Brownback said the state would give back the $31.5 million it received from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to become an early leader, along with six other states, in establishing health insurance exchanges that other local government could use as a model.
