South Carolina GOP leader Patrick Haddon, who formerly supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the 2012 presidential primary, yesterday announced his endorsement of Rick Santorum.
"After looking at all the candidates and their political careers, and looking for a true conservative that has been fighting for real Republican causes, there is only one candidate that has been a consistent conservative fighting [for] family values and supporting pro-life issues," said Haddon, former chairman of the Greenville County GOP. "That is why Shelly and I are proud to endorse Senator Rick Santorum for President of the United States."
Haddon's endorsement of Santorum was at least the second defection from Perry's South Carolina campaign this week. Spartanburg businessman Barry Wynn switched his endorsement to Mitt Romney, after denouncing Perry's "destructive" attacks on Romney's business record at Bain Capital.

Credit everyone but the man itself. It’s getting a bit tiresome.
Apparently we despise working hard and canvassing votes the old fashioned way. Since when?
Will you still feel the same way when he finishes fifth in South Carolina?
I think these evangelical "leaders" have made a huge mistake.
Actually, mine was Cain, but then people took out the knives when he was actually winning. Heavens to betsy, can’t have HIM actually beating out Romney.
So, now I stick with the next best - Santorum. Newt ain’t gettin’ no love from me.
He didn’t finish fifth in Iowa, I don’t see why he’d finish there in South Carolina.
“What is Santorums opinion of the Right to Work law and didnt he say he wanted to slash Social Security now in the last debate? That is a losing statement.”
Glad some of us remember he said that.
Thank you for the link! I've been wavering between Gingrich and Santorum. Watching them both speak convinced me Rick Santorum is the better candidate.
Weird.
“That said, he is running a terrible campaign and I dont know who to blame.”
I’m sure the governor is as baffled as his admirers and supporters. Or maybe he knows what happened. He is exactly what you say. A fine gentleman and a great governor. He’s a leader and has served his country which is obviously not of importance anymore because we have so few who do. He was THE target from the onset by Cain. Silly, silly Cain, the jester, who was going to fry Mexicans on an electric fence....while singing gospel music. What a heartless, immature, non-leader poor excuse for a candidate. And the crowds cheered. Threw money at him. Governor Perry was drugged in all probablity with pain killers from that back surgery. He made a bad call having the surgery so close to the campaign beginning. You’re right, he IS a fine public speaker. Engaging. Humorous. Why did no talk show host every mention his name except recently in derogatory terms? Strange.
Unfortunately Bachman and Santorum were a petty tag team and showed their leadership skills front and center. None. If Santorum gets the nomination, it will be because he thinks like everyone in the Conservative circle and he’s Catholic? It’s not going to work that way in the end. There may be 150 Christian leaders who have endosed him, but that won’t pass on to the congregation. Those who loathe Catholics and think it’s as much of a cult as Mormonism. He doesn’t have one day of leadership experience. He IS Michele Bachman who was forced out. He lost his own senate seat. He endorsed a non-Conservative.
I’m bitter. I’m not bitter because Governor Perry is losing. Some gotta win, some gotta lose. I’m bitter because this was supposed to be the greatest idea campaign ever....to fight Obama. I wanted to hear it all. Mr-I-washed-dishes-and-painted-houses Sean Hannity directing voter traffic?? Give me a break. Levin should be ashamed. Rush? No words. I’m sickened. The talk show hosts have controlled the masses. They’ve spun them senseless. I’m ashamed I ever listened.
I know. Verbose.
“Was Perry on painkillers when he signed legislation giving in-state tuition to Illegal Aliens”
Valentine, you have no heart.
Reality check--Santorum is a nice guy, but he does neither.
He hasn't gone against Newt one on one. And just where does he blow Romney away head to head?
The rest of America sees Rick in a not very nice light--a one note Johnny about abortion. They think he is a radical right winger, rightly or wrongly. And a lot of his positions in Congress were not small gov't conservatives ones. And let's not forget groveling for Specter against Toomey, who actually WAS a conservative.
Santorum would make a fine VP or Sec'y of State, but Obama and the Dems are going for the jugular, and we need someone who knows how to play that game.
To me Newt is like Grant--Lincoln didn't care if Grant was a drunkard or not--he fought and won battles. We need a scrapper, because this election is not going to be playing beanbag(man, I hate that expression).
This is not 1976 or 1988; this is more like 1860 or 1980. There is a clear fight ahead that will change the course of America, and of the field we have left, only Gingrich has the vision, knowledge, and experience to beat the Dems at their crooked little games.
On the social issues, Rick are and I are simpatico, but that is not enough to win this election.
Like you, I am puzzled why Rush seems to purposely omit Perry’s name while listing Santorum and Gingrich as the ones to challenge Romney.
Dear FRiend, I’m not sure about the landscaper reference in your reply. Post no. 9 did have a reference to a landscaper.
Please see my post 90 on this thread. That is my honest assessment on Santorum.
I hope you are right and I am wrong, but in the fight I see ahead, color me skeptical.
Fair enough, FRiend. :)
Before we all get on Santorums band wagon, we need to know what his voting record is.
This is just some of the worst of it:

Its going to be Romney or Newt or by a slim chance, Santorum.
VOTED AGAINST INCREASING THE NUMBER OF IMMIGRATION INVESTIGATORS?
VOTED TO GIVE WELFARE BENEFITS TO NATURALIZED CITIZENS?
VOTED AGAINST HIRING AN ADDITIONAL 1,000 BORDER PATROL AGENTS?
VOTED AGAINST FOOD STAMP REFORM?
VOTED AGAINST MEDICAID REFORM?
People NEED to know this about Santorums voting record.
Newt is NOT my first choice, and I cant say I like him that much.
I just feel it will take a man of Newts bravery, (yes, bravery. Newts right. The others are too timid to debate Obama) intellect, experience and debating skills to bring the Marxist/Muslim down.
Have we all forgotten his smack-downs of his RINO opponents and the Obama butt-licking interviewers?
All agree hes the most intelligent, experienced and the most skilled at debating- even the Obama loving Media.
Obama is going to have a billion dollars in this campaign fund, the commie MSM in his back pocket, hell use the same same voter fraud methods, and illegal overseas contributiions as he did in 08.
Do you think the rats are going to let the commie coup they they have hoped for for generations slip through their fingers??
The fight is going to be the hardest fought and the dirtiest in U.S history.
We have GOT to have a STRONG man with the experience, intellect and debating skills to go up against Obama- or America is doomed.
Yikes! This makes M. Romney sound more conservative than him.
“Exactly by what standard are conservatives seeing Santorum as the uber conservative? All he has is his pro-life credentials. Everything else is boring, tepid, noncommittal. At least Newt and Perry are offering a flat tax and other major reforms. Santorum cant even support right-to-work laws.”
I’m not sure that people consider Santorum as an “uber conservative”, but at least he didn’t sit on that couch, or sign an order to shoot up little girls so they could have wild and crazy sex in their early teen years.
As to right-to-work, sure, it would have been nice to see him vote the other way, but the vote was a throw-away (the Republicans got creamed on it), and Santorum is from that part of the country. I have little doubt that he’ll have trouble being a conservative in the White House - the other...it seems to depend on what side of the bed they get out of.
Thanks John. That’s okay with me. I’m not resolute in support of him, but I do like the guy so far.
There is a full court press right now for the United States to buy into Europe’s view of global warming, and join it to implement massive fixes.
It is my opinion that despite what Newt says, he is still convinced man is causing global warming, and something drastic needs to be done.
I share your view of Obama. I think he is a craven enemy of our nation. The problem for me, is that I recognize it is possible for someone on our side to get so focused on certain causes, that they would do severe damage to our nation even though they meant well.
Would Newt join the left to try to force U. S. Citizens out of their cars? Would he support the EPA setting standards that would nearly destroy our industrial companies? Would he set some limits on what size homes we could have, or what type of things we could continue to buy.
Newt couldn’t keep an oath to either of his first two wives, but wants me to accept his promise that he will be dedicated to the betterment of our nation.
So far, I can’t. I may have to at some point.
You may be right. I’ve been wrong before. It was one time when I incorrectly admitted to being wrong though.
;^)
We’ll see. I’m not as convinced as you are that a straight up choice between Obama and Santorum would result in Obama remaining president.
In early 1980, folks were saying Reagan couldn’t win over Carter. I’m not making the case that Santorum is Reagan by any means, but I don’t see his negatives in nearly the same light I do the others.
“a true conservative that has been fighting for real Republican causes, there is only one candidate that has been a consistent conservative fighting [for] family values and supporting pro-life issues,””
The FIGHTER part is what I like. Some of them are fairly conservative, but don’t have much FIGHT in them.
Rick Santorum is very kind, but very scrappy when he has to be, which is why he gets things done!
“On abortion, he is one of many senators who vote pro-life. The difference is that he is personally responsible for making sure a lot of these votes occur in the first place: He was an architect of the effort to ban partial-birth abortion, a strategy that energized the pro-life movement and allowed it to go on the political offensive.”
http://www.heymiller.com/2010/08/the-fate-of-rick/
Santorum said Alito would not be a Justice if it weren’t for Specter. Specter was very effective at being the head of the Judicial Committee.
Rick Santorum realized that The Dems would have control of the Judicial Committee, if the GOP didn’t have the majority in the Senate.
