It might be unseemly to bring this up just as Mitt Romney celebrates his win in New Hampshire on Tuesday night and seems to be a strong front-runner for the GOP nomination. But the story of his putting his dog in a carrier on his car roof for a 12-hour family trip is spreading again on the Internet and disturbs me the more I learn about it.
And I am betting the more it gets out, the more votes Romney loses red, blue and purple.
When, in a campaign debate, Romney opposed allowing a non-documented worker who has lived here for 25 years to stay and earn his way to citizenship, he struck me as heartless.
But when I read the story recently in greater detail about what Romney did to his Irish Setter, Seamus, that struck me as more than heartless it struck me as downright cruel.

Romney is against everything that freerepublic stands for, and he is a despicable person to boot, and you want to shame conservatives into throwing roses in his path during his march to steal the leadership seat of the Republican party?
Do you know who Mitt Romney is?
Romney left the Republican party because of the election of President Reagan, Romney eventually started devoting all of his donations and fund raising solely to Democrat candidates.
Following that time, even after he RE-REGISTERED REPUBLICAN TO ENTER MASSACHUSETTS POLITICS Romney campaigned as the anti-Reagan, the anti-Jesse Helms types, against the Contract with America, and was fund raising for Planned Parenthood.
Romney is a dedicated lifelong, anti-conservative, he and his anti-war, presidential candidate father stormed off the convention floor at the 1964 Republican convention IN PROTEST AGAINST GOLDWATERS NOMINATION.
For years Romney was one of Americas most vocal, passionately pro-abortion politicians, explaining that his entire family had become dedicatedly pro-abortion in 1963.
I’m not a Mitt fan. I’m also not a fan of those that feel a second administration of Obama is just what the country needs. The excuses for hating the guy are right out of a conspiracy website and a democrat hate group. You all sound like petulant children ready to grab their toys because the other guy is winning.
If you don’t like him, don’t vote for him.
But if I see bitching and moaning on this site by the same people that refused to vote for Bush 41, Dole, WBush, Huckabee, McCain, Perry, Newt, Thompson, Guiliani (sp) or whomever because they can’t pass some litmus test of being genetically connected to Reagan therefore not good enough, I’m going to go bat—it crazy.
Ronald Reagan ain’t walking through the door to save the day. Palin ain’t jumping in either. Time to move on.
If, in August we have a candidate I didn’t support in the primaries on the ticket, I won’t sit on the sidelines and pout like most of the crybabies here. I’ll make the logical decision that is best for the country and get rid of Obama. Not sit and whine.
Wake up. ANY REPUBLICAN WOULD BE BETTER THAN OBAMA. I would prefer Santorum or Perry but Newt or Romney would do.
Actually you are an increasingly passionate and long winded supporter of Mitt Romney.
Your list of things that we should not discuss about him, is growing.
I'm glad we've gotten smarter but considering the stuff people did in the 80s and earlier before we knew better I can't find this (of all the problems with Romney) disqualifying of a candidate.
Furthermore:
(a) There's plenty of ammunition to be used against Romney regarding his conservative bonafides (or lack thereof);
(b) Newt bringing this up is, like his attacks on Bain, just another example of the bizarre idea that a republican (or a RINO like Newt) should attack Romney from the left;
(c) A lot of the people here having a nervous breakdown over the "poor dog" are the same ones who never seemed to worry about "Saint Sarah the Divine" supporting the iditarod.
I’ve been trying to make a passionate defense of common sense.
This site is turning into a combo DU/Kos/Media Matters/OFA and the White Hut’s disinformation team combined.
People seem to be losing their minds because of Romney and I feel like Charlton Heston in Soylent Green or Donald Sutherland in the Body Snatchers before they catch him..
Most of us are not for the anti-Reagan candidate who actually left the party because of conservatives gaining power.
Romney: "I'm not a partisan politician," he said in an interview with The Post that fall. "My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses."
Like anything else, some dogs like it better than others, and if the dog seemed happy with the bike, that’s that.
OMG seriously, Utmost Insanity? Can you and Lanny even hear your metro retentive sanctimonious girly-men selves? You're far too balls out on a 30 year-old pre-PC-standardized non-story Clark Griswald too-many-kids roadtrip.
Geeze...I'm going back to my regularly-scheduled evening animal-lover's programming.
Actually you caught me.. I’m part of the CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Newscorp, Gannett, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Coulter, Rove, Palin, NY Times, Daily News, NY Post, Dallas Morning News, Atlanta Journal, Boston Herald, Mormon, Catholic, Sikh, Buddhist, Deist, Rotarian, DNC, RNC, DCCC, RNCC, RSCC, DSCC, Obama, Bush, Crist, Dean, Republican, Rasmussen, Zogby, AFP,UPI, AP, Reuters super secret cabal of anti-Reaganite people trying to collude to get Romney elected.. We all met today to formulate our master plan with the Bilderbergers to take over the country when all the rubes that vote against Obama finally cast their ballots instead of doing the right thing and stay home on election day. We do all this just to deny the “real conservative” a chance to turn things around because we all want $5 a gallon gas, socialized medicine, deballed military, gun confiscation, total seizure of private wealth, collapse of the private economy through excessive regulation and everyone depending on the government.
I better tell them that you’re on to us so we can change our plans..
Lol, relax with your silly outrage. I don’t know who Lanny Davis is, and I don’t really care.

I found the events more humorous than anything.
A quicker way to say it, would be to point out that you liked Giuliani in 2007, Romney today; and that you have been making the same pleas for moderation and acceptance of the more liberal candidate for years.
oh, I forgot to add the banks, hedge funds, financiers, “zionists”, Skull and Bones and the guys that fly the black helicopters..
They’re in on it too.
From Giuliani to Romney in 4 years, and the never ending drum beat to get freepers to accept them, you don’t change much.
but you have us all beat.. too smart are you.. You see through all of us, we are just trying to use the mind trick that consists of one guy on a message board to change everyone’s mind. Wow, you figured it out.
Tell me cyberstalker, what was I wearing when I voted back in 2008 and 2010? Please get another hobby, you’re starting to creep me out.
Lol, I can see how you became a Giuliani/Romney follower.
You just don’t need to try and push them on the rest of us.
No kidding I took his picture, had his own little goggles. LOL, actually got a kick out of it, figured the little guy was kicking up his heels with his pal.
Reminds me of a story I read earlier. They didn’t actually
put their dogs in the trunk, but someone thought they did:
