Now We Will See The Real Obama and it Will Get Ugly

Bill Daley leaving the Obama administration was big news for ten minutes. But as my friend Streetwise Professor and I discussed on Twitter after the news broke, this really signals a big change in direction on how Obama will campaign.

It’s going to get really ugly. How ugly? Think of the election cycle from 1796-1804. It will be that ugly. The culmination of those election cycles was a duel by Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, with Hamilton losing his life after the gun battle.

Both Hamilton and Jefferson manipulated the press of that time to scandalize the other side. Character assassination is a mild phrase to use when describing the vitriol that went back and forth. Look for more in the coming months.

It takes a thick skin to be a politician, but in Chicago, no one ever plays fair. The game is rigged before the ballots are printed. They say backroom politics are dead, but the political bosses in Chicago are alive and well. As Craig correctly points out, what you just saw in the White House was a street fight from Chicago manifesting itself into an internal power struggle in Washington.

Even though they are all Democrats, there are still big political divisions within Chicago. Mayor Daley’s special talent was mitigating the special interests of all the factions. Truly, it is a special skill that should be admired and not chided, even though he accomplished it on the back of the tax payer. Daley would be an excellent CEO of a large company. I have a lot of respect for him. He is an extremely bright and energetic person. He isn’t a political hack.

There are different kinds of Democrats in Chicago. You need to know the species before you jump to conclusions. Nothing happens in a vacuum, and nothing happens without a consensus.

There are the machine Dems that understand you need a really vital business economy to support all the union jobs and other enterprises they make money from. The machine Dems can’t wet their beaks without a continuing flow of both private and government money they can skim from. Culturally, these kinds of Democrats would describe themselves as “fiscally conservative and socially liberal”. They are fiscally conservative until you start cutting spending on government programs, or simply cutting out government programs because they mean jobs and pensions to their constituents. Dan Rostenkowski was the textbook example of this machine Democrat. Blagojevich was a machine guy that jumped ship. He got too big for his britches. If he would have followed orders, he would have been just fine. Instead, he is going to jail. Machine Democrats do play by some rules. Once you negotiate with them and have a deal, you have a deal. At least until the next negotiation where they will try to take a little more from you. But in the ensuing years, you will be great friends.

The next kind of Democrat works the system and plays racial politics all the way. This is where many ethnic politicians play. They make sure they use race to “get their fair share”. They have allies in their mission. In the case of the White House, it’s David Plouffe.

There is a part of Chicago politics that is really well known. However, it’s unspoken because of fear. The fear of being branded a racist when you are merely saying something everyone knows but social constraints make it taboo. The cost of silence is high. Practitioners of racial politics are very tough to negotiate with, and extract a high price for their support. Jesse Jackson is a good example of someone where the issue of race is forefront in the negotiation.

An example of how a person like Jackson was placated was when his family miraculously received the rights to all the distribution of Budweiser at city and county establishments. John Kass of the Chicago Tribune doesn’t call him the King of Beers for nothing.

Advocates of this brand toss around the “racist” brand liberally. Because they are ethnic, there is no way they themselves can be “racist” because they are “standing up for the people”. If the people knew how much money was skimmed off the top they might not be so understanding. These kinds of Democrats are very tough to negotiate with. There are always special cut outs for them, and they never are satisfied. Every issue comes down to one thing, race. They use that topic as a cudgel to get what they want. And unlike the Machine Dems, a deal is not always a deal with them. Not all ethnic politicians reside in this forest of politics, some are much more comfortable being machine Democrats. You have to feel them out to see where they live.

The last kind of Democrat in Chicago are the true believers. They are idealistic and actually think that systems of organizing people like socialism and communism are the best methods. They idealize China. The fact that huge cities can be built at the twitch of a government finger with no concern for property rights is enticing to them. The true believers don’t believe in a single class system like they say. There is a small cadre of hand picked ruling class people, and then the rest of the poor stiffs. Bill Ayers is one person at the idealogical center of a system like this. Ayers had many predecessors in Chicago and this sort of “true believer” Democrat culture runs very deep. The tentacles of the true believer culture reach all over Chicago. Recall, the Haymarket riots were here. Upton Sinclair did his best work here. Studs Terkel was a true believer. There is a DNA that runs very deep in certain parts of the city which exemplifies this sort of system. Barack Obama is a person that came from this part of city politics. There are many others, but for them a large government apparatus that directs all traffic and makes all decisions is the way to run a society. Many of the true believers ally themselves with the practitioners of racial politics because they see that as a means to an endgame.

The other problem with the true believers is they have credentialed themselves and put themselves into positions of respect and authority. Ayers as a university professor was entitled to a platform for his views, and many people allow him to air them in the spirit of public debate. This is exactly what they want, for as soon as they assume a position of respect, their twisted view of society becomes debated. In fact their views should be tossed out with the trash and their title stripped away.

An outsider cannot begin to comprehend the deep level to which machine politics have descended to in Chicago. There is virtually no job in government at any level, city, county and many state positions, where a person owes a person which owes a politician. You just don’t get there from here without paying a lot of dues, both in money and physical labor. By physical labor I mean going out on the streets and knocking on doors, campaigning, cajoling friends to elect certain people. To the untrained eye, one Democrat looks like another when nothing can be further from the truth.

From afar, the machine is a thing of beauty when it springs into action. There is intense coordination. It’s efficient. Opponents are mowed down. Like a band of army ants, it eats everything in its way. Not even the internet and software can stop the political machine. Employees will make sure they don’t adopt software that would cost precious jobs. City reorganization isn’t cutting budgets, it’s simply designating which private sector business will absorb the city jobs that were cut. Then the private sector gets intimately intertwined with the government and the machine spreads to ho hum businesses like florists and caterers. Chicago runs more like Russia or China with an American twist. The only way out is to escape. Chicago has lost population over the last twenty years.

Then there are the Democrats that are the connectors. David Axelrod is a true believer that is a connector. He is good with the turn of a phrase to mask what they truly want and turn it into something saleable to the American public. The Clinton’s had their own machine which some Chicago folks were a part of. But their idea of political combat was a scorched earth policy. Chicago operators are much more pragmatic than that.

Obama’s mission was to ingrain that sort of crony capitalist machine into the fabric of national politics. One look at all the waivers given to his cronies for Obamacare shows you where he is headed. If Obama and his compatriots get there way, every business, man, woman and child will have to bow their head and kiss a ring to get anything done.

Those true believers are dangerous. People like Ayers want the traditional America destroyed. Sometimes they do make mistakes. They believe so deeply in the idealistic nation state they envision, that they lose sight of what is really happening on the ground. I think Daley leaving the White House is one of those times. Valerie Jarrett and the practitioners of her style of politics are running the show. Let’s work hard to inform Americans so they don’t buy what she is selling. Had Daley held sway, we would have seen a different more palatable direction.

And, by the way, many of the Illinois Republicans are no better than the Democrats. That’s why they call it “The Combine”

I personally believe that if Obama loses a close or extremely close election, the dimocrat/socialist/liberal/homosexual/commies will come out of the woodwork to prevent him from leaving office. I think they will go to the courts, file hundreds of suits about voter fraud (but forget they run 99% of the voting booths), lie, cheat, steal, threaten, assault, do anything and everything they can to keep him in office. I think we could actually be looking at a potential of him declaring martial law. Martial law is described as:

Martial law is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis—(usually) only temporary—when the civilian government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g., maintain order and security, and provide essential services), when there are extensive riots and protests, or when the disobedience of the law becomes widespread. In most cases, military forces are deployed to quiet the crowds, to secure government buildings and key or sensitive locations, and to maintain order.

Generally, military personnel replace civil authorities (this won't happen here. Obama will continue to assume all authority) and perform some or all of their functions. In full-scale martial law, the highest-ranking military officer would take over, or be installed, as the military governor or as head of the government, thus removing all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government.

Martial law can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public. Such incidents may occur after a coup d'état (Thailand 2006); when threatened by popular protest (China, Tiananmen Square protests of 1989); to suppress political opposition (Poland in 1981); to stabilize insurrections or perceived insurrections (Canada, The October Crisis of 1970). Martial law may be declared in cases of major natural disasters, however most countries use a different legal construct, such as a "state of emergency".

I can see something like this happening. The commie/muslin/homosexual machine will do everything and everything to keep him in office. The republican nominee cannot win a close election. He HAS to win by several percentage points or we will have a war in America. They simply are not going to give up this chance of a life time in taking all total control.

Wow! This reads like Ulsterman.

Naw. Ulsterman would have colorful details on Daley's B.O. and how Bill and Bernadine like to have threesomes with their grad students...

So it’s going to get ugly.

It’s going to get ugly because the Democrats, the media, and Barack Obama did not heed the lesson that the 2010 elections should have taught them.

Obama’s strategy is to be seen as “fighting” for the “little guy”, the “unfortunate”. This will only serve to maintain his base and alienate everyone else. It is not in an American’s nature to consider himself a “little guy” or “unfortunate”, even among those who could rightly make that claim.

The media doesn’t realize they no longer have the power to persuade. This was demonstrably proven in 2010 when they shilled for every Dem running and were shellacked.

Obama’s the only one in the room who doesn’t realize his speeches have lost the power they once had. Everyone around him is afraid to tell him to shut up. They just leave, like Daley.

So Obama’s going to attempt to convince us what he’s done has been good for us, as he promises more of the same. Won’t work.

The country’s in a foul, foul mood. The lines have been clearly drawn. The private sector is Obama’s declared enemy, and it is still numerically superior to those who have been bought and paid for. 2010 proved this, and this is what the lefties are missing.

They will give Obama the hook in 2012.

Well said, wayover.

And I pray you are right. The class warfare propaganda and the attempt to systematically derail the private sector,,,ie the engine of economic prosperity, must be defeated...

Valerie Jarrett, Moochelle and David Plouffe script the leftist attack plan coming out of the WH. Bam watches ESPN in the oval in his sweats and Birkenstocks, bouncing his leg over the side of his chair and chewing gum. What a disgusting affront and disrespect be brings to the office of POTUS.
Think HW, W and Reagan who never graced the office without wearing a suit and tie. Think of the class that Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush modeled as first ladies.
Contrast that with Moochie in shorts leaning over the railing in South Dakota with her big butt displayed for all the world to gag on.

But I wonder how Town Hall published a piece that referred to the Clintons (as in them, plural) as the Clinton’s, singular possessive.

Because spell check does not pick it up and because only you, and I, and my late english teacher know how to use, and how not to use, our friend the apostrophe.

I’d rather die that give into socialism. Death is the more noble choice rather than living as a slave.

Yep -too many of the "better Red than dead" folks ended up in politics. Now it's "pefer Red to Free" folks ensconced in the D.C. cesspool.

That is the American attitude the Democrats and their allies in the media and education are attempting quash. When the majority of Americans are dependant on government for maintaining their living standard then the American dream will be to obtain a government sinecure.

We are sunk with a nice guy Romney who continues to say Barry is a nice guy just in over his head. We are doomed unless someone brings out Valerie Jarret’s background as well as BO’s and hammers in what it will be like if they win a second term. Yes, we need to scare people to death and not be afraid to do it. Mitt won’t do it, especially with BO lovin McCain at his side. Newt is the only one with the guts to call out the OBama’s as the radicals that they are.

“We are sunk with a nice guy Romney who continues to say Barry is a nice guy just in over his head. “

*****

RINO Romney isn’t a nice guy. Look at what he did to Newt in Iowa through henchmen.

The problem is that Romney can’t attack Obama’s policies because they’re also Romney’s policies. Perhaps the only distinction between the two is that Obama truly does hate the United States and seeks to change it into a European sh*thole because of it. Romney heads down the same path in the spirit of crony capitalism rather than anti-American views.

I think you are too hard on Hamilton. Read Forrest McDonald's book on Hamilton also Brookhiser has a book him. Also read the Federalist Papers. Read all you can get your hands on on Washington's Administration (Both terms!). When you finish you will find yourself as I did admiring Hamilton more and Jefferson less. In fact Jefferson comes across sometimes as ridiculous at times dishonest and also at times a delusional ideologue. How ridiculous, constantly worrying that Washington was going to make himself king!; that's as about as ridiculous as you can get! Also remember he funded Phillip Freneau whose newspaper keep attacking personally Washington. Jefferson kept supporting France and French interference in US internal affairs (He initially supported Citizen Genet!) long after it was clear that the French Revolution had degenerated into a totalitarian regime worse then a 1000 French kings. Washington had to shame him into throwing Genet out of the country. Hamilton also did some questionable things, at times he was way too close to the British ambassador.
Economically, Jefferson's views were totally unrealistic there was no way we could have survived as some sort of an “agrarian republic”. We needed manufacturing and we needed commerce Hamilton and Washington understood this. Hamilton probably learned this life lesson starting with his early youth as a trading factor in Barbados and Washington as a plantation owner. Washington turned Mount Vernon into a hub of light manufacturing in order to try and cut his indebtedness to English merchants. (He had mixed results!) Jefferson didn't seem to try that approach to the extent that Washington did in running his plantation. (And he was always in debt up to his eyeballs!) Both Hamilton and Washington learned the importance of a strong central government with sound financial policies because of their combined experiences experiences in running the Continental Army. (Think ‘Not worth a Continental’!) Both also benefited from conversations and working with Robert Morris. (Financier of the Revolution!)
If you read those books and study Washington's administration, a couple things will happen. You will have a new appreciation of Hamilton, your will see that the “popular” view of Jefferson is quite wrong, and your admiration of Washington will double or triple. Remember Washington was probably the worst educated of the Founding Fathers (Formal education may have ended at the 4th grade or so!), these means modern historians have allowed this notion to grow that Washington wasn't as smart as say Jefferson, Adams, Franklin or Hamilton. At best they say he was this savvy manager that got everyone to work together. He was that and much more, he clearly was always learning; learned from past mistakes and tended not to repeat them. Importantly he was not bound and thus blinded by ideology as Jefferson often was. (Not always, think Louisiana Purchase & then Lewis & Clark Expedition!.) Washington was a genius at applying what he learned (a wizard a finding a way to get it done!), a born leader & truly indispensable!. Also Washington was much closer to Hamilton, personally as well as ideologically!

Gad, I've read all of Farrand, witnessing by Madison's hand Hamilton's behavior all through the Convention.

Did you read that article or not? It quotes extensively from Federalist 75.

Sheesh.

When you finish you will find yourself as I did admiring Hamilton more and Jefferson less.

The latter was too mercurial for his own good, but did an enormous work for this nation, especially the Louisiana purchase. Nor did the Federalists before him deal with the cost of paying off the Barbary Pirates. He was absolutely right about bankers and corporations, whose machinations today through their tax-exempt "charitable" foundations is the nexus of the regulatory monster that is killing the republic today, just as it was before the Revolution, sirrah.

Exactly, Romney is going to be another McCain, refuses to besmirsch his opponent. I don’t think I can handle another Republican campaign where Obama throws his “digs” and uses his middle finger when talking about a Republican candidate. Newt won’t be saying “my friends”. He would be willing to bring up the dirt on Obama’s background. Unlike the weasel McCain. Newt hasn’t been neuted...he still has a great set of balls.

Thanks for posting.

"dandiegirl" is on to something in her recognition that the Republican candidate for 2012 must not naively describe his opponent, even at this early date, as being simply a nice guy who is in over his head.

The battle for the ideas of liberty over those of redistribution, resulting in slavery of individuals to deficit, debt, taxation, and rule by a political elite is too important to describe their main 2012 advocate so lightly.

"[With the decline of society] begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia [war of all against all], which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man. And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:40

Had America's Founders treated King George's commitment and resolve simply as the actions of an uninformed "guy," there would have been no Declaration of Independence--a statement which clearly outlined the "reasons" for their opposition to him and his policies.

They did not treat him as just a "nice guy" who didn't understand that large, intrusive, controlling and coercive government destroys the unalienable rights individuals possess by edict of their Creator. They stated their cause clearly, and they laid out for the world to see his spending, taxing, and planning philosophy which enslaved people.

Jefferson, the great intellectual and talented writer of the day, was able to articulate their ideas and "encapsulate" those "abstract ideas" (Lincoln) in our document of freedom where they remain, as Lincoln further described, a "stumbling-block to the very harbingers [initiators of threatening change] of reappearing tyranny and oppression."

Where is the candidate able to perform that task on the behalf of liberty from now till November?
