Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video, and has given us permission to publish it.
I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.
Never thought the folks in Iowa were too smart.
Marines urinate on the enemy, while Barry Sotero urinates on the constitution, which is the more egregious?
It’s a figure of speech.
Did you even read the whole statement? He says they should be punished through established protocol, but the media and other opportunists should shut up.
I wouldn’t do anything to them - period.
But everything else is right on.
I concur, Well said Colonel!
Right on, right on!!!
Let the UCMJ do it’s job...let the media devote .25 of this attention to Fast and Furious, I would be impressed!
Thank you Col. West - BookMark
May God guide our course.

72 virgins, aint it?
” This nation has forgotten what war is.” <<<
This nation has forgotten what standards, stars, stripes,
medals and exemplary behavior is. We now defend the baser instincts, play to the lowest common denominator in an effort to make less become more.
I havn’t read the article.
But it seems to me everyone is forgetting the most obvious problem with these guys urinating on the dead. Our people still have to handle these dead bodies. Why the hell would you piss all over something that your buddy has to pick up and move?
STUPID!
not to mention making a video of it...that was DOUBLE STUPID.
the media can KMA, though!
Tell ya what. Tell the jokers they can avoid punishment if they go pee on a news reporter and video tape it.
As always, Congressman West is RIGHT ON! We are blessed to have Allen West in Congress!
What does Col West mean by
“I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.”
I recall a good deal of outrage over these incidents.
This latest incident is indicative of a breakdown in discipline. I would think that a lieutenant colonel would be concerned about the implications.
Seems to me that Col West is grandstanding here.
I agree with Rep. West. They violated the code of conduct and should receive some mild form of discipline. But what they did was not the worst thing in the world.
"As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth. . . ."
Here I disagree with Rep. West. All citizens have a right to express an opinion on this. The military represents our nation and works for us.
>> “I recall a good deal of outrage over these incidents.” <<
.
Not by Democrat leaders, and not by our media.
West is right; what those troops did was acceptable, justifyable expression of the rejection of what those terrorists did, day in and day out.
Quit your false outrage.
Well by all means....comment away.
Indeed, which is why he wants these Marines appropriately punished.
What I think he is lashing out against, and I agree with him here, is the attempt by the media and the left to rekindle another overblown Abu Gharib scandal.
Marines pissing on their kill, while stupid, classless and dishonorable, is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. Sure it may turn world opinion against us, but the world hates us anyway.
