Just prior to his appointment as President Obamas so-called regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein wrote a lengthy academic paper suggesting the government should infiltrate social network websites, chat rooms and message boards.
Such cognitive infiltration, Sunstein argued, should be used to enforce a U.S. government ban on conspiracy theorizing.
Among the beliefs Sunstein classified as a conspiracy theory is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.
The find comes as a government document reportedly relates the U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys command center routinely monitors dozens of popular websites, including Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, WikiLeaks and news sites including the Huffington Post and Drudge Report.
Reuters reported that a privacy compliance review issued by DHS last November confirms that since at least June 2010, the departments national operations center has been operating a Social Networking/Media Capability which involves regular monitoring of publicly available online forums, blogs, public websites and message boards.
The government document states such monitoring is meant to collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture to help manage national or international emergency events.
While the DHS may be monitoring websites for security reasons, Sunstein advocated such actions with another goal in mind.

Global warming is a hoax! Global warming is a hoax! Global warming is a hoax! Global warming is a hoax!

Lol @ the meta-irony here of Cass Sunstein engaging in conspiracy about conspiratorial thinking. What a projecting buffoon.
In a way, I want to see them try this. Social networking involves myriad political and social ideologies, and there would be absolutely no quicker way for this failure of an administration to isolate themselves than to start shutting down the sites that Internet-addicted teens and twenty-somethings use minute-by-minute.
This is seriously turning into something out of 1984/V for Vendetta. When are they going to start banning thought crimes?
There!
We need a good ol fashion witch hunt!
You would be foolish to think this isn’t going on now.
And they would be foolish to think that it doesn’t go both ways.
Yes, Global Warming is a hoax. In total agreement with you, and millions of others.
Hate speech.
Thought crimes are already banned. Have been for a while now.
Why don’t they all just wear black shirts and go around beating up people in the streets, criminalizing opposition and arresting their ‘enemies’ without due process??!
Isn’t that how it’s done? This is all so ugly
1) Internet ID's for all users
2) Infiltration of websites for "subversives" who dare to question the administration
3) NDAA -- which allows incarceration without due process for threats to the administration
1+2+3 brings us back to the days of the Gestapo and Stassi!

“Sunstein said government agents might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action.
Sunstein defined a conspiracy theory as an effort to explain some event or practice by reference to the machinations of powerful people, who have also managed to conceal their role.
Some conspiracy theories recommended for ban by Sunstein include:
The theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.
The view that the Central Intelligence Agency was responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The 1996 crash of TWA flight 800 was caused by a U.S. military missile.
The Trilateral Commission is responsible for important movements of the international economy.
That Martin Luther King Jr. was killed by federal agents.
The moon landing was staged and never actually occurred.
Sunstein allowed that some conspiracy theories, under our definition, have turned out to be true.”
The Obots and the Warmist trolls are on the US Government payrolls.
And your tagline nailed it! They are after complete control!
....as if the simple act of logging on at FR doesn’t put us all on “somebody’s” List......
Oh, well.
By Sundstein’s standards, I’ve probably made The List a dozen times.
No BFD.
.....unless I get stuck into a category that forces me to act out their little projections. After teaching the craft for a dozen years, I’ve always wondered what reaction there would be if I were to act the Warmonger.
The irony, of course, is even in our little echo chamber of "like-minded thinkers," there is an incredible range of thought and opinion. I mean, my God: we have "loserdopians" and the "Christian Taliban" playing in the same ballpark here.
I was on the grassy knoll.
