Santorum is just a quieter kind of insider. Remember that he supported Arlen Spector over Toomey!

He is without a doubt a big government solutions guy. Not an ounce of free-market conservatism in his body. Repeal ObamaCare (his own bastard brainchild)? Riiiight.

Jim, what I don't understand is the flak I'm taking over the Bain situation. There seem to be quite a few FReepers who want to give him a pass by not using this against him in the primary, when you know darn well it will be used against him in the general.

In your Statement by the founder of F ree Republic: :"As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty".....it's apparent that your stance is NOT that in being "pro-capitalist" Romney's record at Bain, in which businesses were closed down, workers were laid off, pensions disappeared, and Bain Capital accepted a bailout of millions be applauded because "it's capitalism".

First, this is going to be used against Romney in the general if he is the nominee. Secondly, Mitt claims no tie to Bain now, but Bain has donated to his campaign see my Link to Romney contributors 2012

Why should we be hamstrung in the name of "capitalism" when Romney has made a fortune with pushing to the limit business practices that do NOT present any proof that he actually "created jobs"? I think it's apparent that the media will not let this pass.

One has to wonder just how "conservative" it is for some FReepers to applaud the completely unfettered drive for wealth for a so-called Republican in the present climate when the nation is seeing people losing their homes, savings and their very livelihood.

[In before the "Newt did/does worse posts".]

Frankly, it appears to me that this is a back-door way to support Romney on FR by some.

Romney must be STOPPED NOW. He will be torn to pieces in the general.

Romney is a walking, talking, in-the-flesh negative campaign ad for the Demoncrats. He’s ripe for the pickin’. If he’s the Republican candidate, Obama gets a second term. He’s just about as anti-Reagan, anti-conservative, anti-small government as you can get and still wear the Republican label.

greyfoxx39, you must be reading my mind. I already posted on our FReepathon thread to DJ and trisham that I thought some were using Newt to backdoor their support of Ron Paul and Romney. Those folks will soon out themselves. Stand by for their eventual zots, and please don't concern yourself or let them negate your stellar work on behalf of Newt and our fight for our Reaganite nominee!

Still time to stop Romney. I pray and hope Newt Gingrich can rebound, despite the odds and the onslaught of media against him, because he's definitely the right one, but if not Newt, then maybe Santorum or Perry. Something’s got to give.

Romney is a certain loser.

Anyone else notice that the media is going through an exact repeat of the month or two prior to the Obama election? There are non-stop attacks firing at Newt from all directions while almost nothing is being reported on Romney and they’re trying to avoid mentioning his name at all.

” - - - Romney is a certain loser. “

I agree. He lacks the focused, sparse plan that Reagan used so successfully. Willy’s voter support is flat to previous elections, and lacks the viseral connection with voters. He would be a good replacement to Hilly, the current Secretary of Statements.

For reasons unknown to me, the Establishment GOP lines up to support one Candidate who is the most liberal “Conservative” that is running. I remember the 2008 election when the ad “McCain, the true Conservative” ran on local TV, well it ran for less than a week, thanks to local donor pressure. GWB wanted a lib for Veep, but was forced to accept Cheney. Cheney saved W’s bacon more than once.

Politics is tied to the tribal emotions of choosing a leader, with REASON not always considered. To illustrate that point to me, (and any professor who wants to lurk in), I posted a thread yesterday asking all FReepers to give their opinions on what effect the candidacy of Ron Paul would have on the Republican Party. With over 90 replies, there were NO replies specific to that question, but each reply rejected Paul out of hand: tribal emotion.

After last night’s second place showing by Paul, I posted the best arguments that I could think of on many threads, with the same results.

As a long-time member of Free Republic, I am curious about why Ron Paul is the second best vote getter, and does not have a vocal representation on FR.

If there is a 10 to 20 % voter population out there that will vote only for Paul, then what can be done to engage them in dialog here on FR?

We will need every vote that we can get to unwind OBAMANATION, so if at least some of the Paul planks are included in the discussion at Tampa, our chances should improve if we include them as we work to defeat Bolshevik Chairman Obama.

As to the “Frontrunners,” it amazes me that they too have gone into the tribal emotion mode, and thus have lost focus on just how they plan on getting America out of the financial death spiral that has been caused by nearly 80 years of Bipartisan Cave-Ins.

It is all well and good for Candidates to holler at each other, but a some point the best ideas from each candidate must be evaluated in a nonemotional manner, and used to build the Nominee’s Platform. Otherwise our “Winner” Nominee will be amazed that he lost the National Election, again.

Check out my recent (3 days) threads and posting and please get back to me as to what the voters see in Paul that we are missing. This is a good tome for reflection, as after South Carolina, REASON will hide until after Tampa.

BTW, in the Primary ideas rule, and candidates drool. That is why I pound away at our candidates, to see if I have missed any of their better ideas from replies from my fellow FReepers.

After Tampa we shall see if the Nominee has enough ideas to capture the imagination of National voters.

Until then, each candidate seems to miss that magic something that captures the imagination of the voter population, and so we listen and wait.

Utah may not be a "red" as you think"

Yeah, Utah is so blue that Billy Jeff came in third, behind Ross Perot, in 1992.

I’m conservative and I’ll be fine with voting for Romney. He’s not my #1 and he’s not even in my top #20 of national conservatives. He is, however, quite different from Obama.

Conservatives need to get their eyes back on the real prize. The Senate and the House. Basically we need a super majority in the House to push very conservative solutions and a majority in the Senate (60 would be great but seems unlikely). A Romney administration would not be in the business of vetoing legislation from a Republican congress (just as he wasn’t in the business of vetoing legislation from a Democrat congress).

If Romney is not stopped in South Carolina (and frankly I don’t see a credible contender - though we’ll see what the negative adds do), conservatives will another path to influence. I guess some will find it acceptable to sit on their hands but have little respect for those who choose that path. There’s still a scenario to put the U.S. on a conservative path.

I wasn’t saying that I thought it was a good idea!...just that IMO, many “Conservatives” will jump ship and vote for Mittens, when a push comes to a shove, IF he is the candidate.

There are alot of phonies out there who call themselves the C word but don’t have a clue what it means: linguine spined to say the least.

Doesn’t matter if Santorum does well in SC. The attacks come only at a front runner...and a front runner Rick ain’t.

I hate Romney and think he's a disaster in the making but that fire comment will only help him if Obama tries to run with it. It was taken out of context and it was about firing a health provider who doesn't deliver as opposed to government run health care.

For those of us that pay close attention, the context will not be lost. For most of the voters that make their decisions based on 30 second sound bites, Romney has needlessly handed one to the opposition that the opposition will find effective. That is reality. I stand by my position that it was a stupid thing to say.

It seems you might have missed the point: If Santorum becomes a front runner, the left will panic.

As always, we note how the left must hide their true intentions while conservatives simply state theirs openly.

Not only do the left use deception as a means to an end—they pursue it for its own sake. In his constant efforts to deceive others, the leftist always fools himself first.
