Still time to stop Romney. I pray and hope Newt Gingrich can rebound, despite the odds and the onslaught of media against him, because he's definitely the right one, but if not Newt, then maybe Santorum or Perry. Something’s got to give.
Romney is a certain loser.
” - - - Romney is a certain loser. “
I agree. He lacks the focused, sparse plan that Reagan used so successfully. Willy’s voter support is flat to previous elections, and lacks the viseral connection with voters. He would be a good replacement to Hilly, the current Secretary of Statements.

For reasons unknown to me, the Establishment GOP lines up to support one Candidate who is the most liberal “Conservative” that is running. I remember the 2008 election when the ad “McCain, the true Conservative” ran on local TV, well it ran for less than a week, thanks to local donor pressure. GWB wanted a lib for Veep, but was forced to accept Cheney. Cheney saved W’s bacon more than once.
Politics is tied to the tribal emotions of choosing a leader, with REASON not always considered. To illustrate that point to me, (and any professor who wants to lurk in), I posted a thread yesterday asking all FReepers to give their opinions on what effect the candidacy of Ron Paul would have on the Republican Party. With over 90 replies, there were NO replies specific to that question, but each reply rejected Paul out of hand: tribal emotion.
After last night’s second place showing by Paul, I posted the best arguments that I could think of on many threads, with the same results.
As a long-time member of Free Republic, I am curious about why Ron Paul is the second best vote getter, and does not have a vocal representation on FR.
If there is a 10 to 20 % voter population out there that will vote only for Paul, then what can be done to engage them in dialog here on FR?
We will need every vote that we can get to unwind OBAMANATION, so if at least some of the Paul planks are included in the discussion at Tampa, our chances should improve if we include them as we work to defeat Bolshevik Chairman Obama.
As to the “Frontrunners,” it amazes me that they too have gone into the tribal emotion mode, and thus have lost focus on just how they plan on getting America out of the financial death spiral that has been caused by nearly 80 years of Bipartisan Cave-Ins.
It is all well and good for Candidates to holler at each other, but a some point the best ideas from each candidate must be evaluated in a nonemotional manner, and used to build the Nominee’s Platform. Otherwise our “Winner” Nominee will be amazed that he lost the National Election, again.
Check out my recent (3 days) threads and posting and please get back to me as to what the voters see in Paul that we are missing. This is a good tome for reflection, as after South Carolina, REASON will hide until after Tampa.
BTW, in the Primary ideas rule, and candidates drool. That is why I pound away at our candidates, to see if I have missed any of their better ideas from replies from my fellow FReepers.
After Tampa we shall see if the Nominee has enough ideas to capture the imagination of National voters.
Until then, each candidate seems to miss that magic something that captures the imagination of the voter population, and so we listen and wait.
