Leadership: Even before George Washington is said to have taken a knee in prayer at Valley Forge, men and women of faith and courage endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights have guided this nation to greatness.
Some 45 million people watched Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow complete that 80-yard touchdown pass play to Demaryius Thomas on the first play from scrimmage in overtime to lead his team over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday's wild card playoff game.
They also saw him take a knee and give thanks to the God he believes in, an act that's been dubbed "Tebow-ing."
The act has been mocked by comedians and pundits and derided by the secularists among us, those who've banned prayer from the public schools, and fought Christmas displays on public property, the words "One Nation Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and even the words "In God We Trust" on our coins.
The fact that Tebow had 316 yards passing and averaged 31.6 yards per pass in the game didn't escape notice. Tebow wore "John 3:16" on his eye black in the 2009 BCS Championship game, a Bible passage often seen on signs held at sporting events at every level.
On the postgame show, CBS analysts "Tebow-ed" in unison, mocking the seriousness of Tebow's intent. "Saturday Night Live" has done a skit in which Jesus appears in the Bronco locker room. God does not take sides in football games, Tebow's critics say.
Tebow would agree with that, but he also acknowledges a higher power's influence on his life, win or lose, just as the Founding Fathers did when they acknowledged in the Declaration of Independence that we were "endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights," rights such as freedom of speech and freedom of, not from, religion.

“I am certain though that God deeply loves and cares for the players and spectators...”
Amen to that. That’s what all the haters totally miss. By praying while on the field of play, Tebow acknowledges and thanks God for for watching over him, helping him do his best, and for His love. The score on the scoreboard has very little to do with it. The success and sheer goodness of Tebow drives the haters nuts.
It can also be bad for their health....we won't shorten them at the neck for mocking our God, He can take care of Himself. The naked hate aimed at Tim Tebow (and Sarah and GWB and Israel, among others) is just a manifestation of Satan's hate for all things of God. It's how you can tell who is genuine - whoever is getting flak is near the target. As for the Steelers, we'll be back, but maybe it's time to retool a bit. Best of luck to the Broncs next week, and all the best to Tim Tebow - I've never felt better after a crushing defeat.
What is hard for the media when it comes to understanding that Tebow is simply thanking God for the talent God has given?
I’ve heard of 3 year old geniuses and prodigies....is that because they worked hard, studied hard, and perseverence won out in the end?
Hardly.
Some are gifted in certain areas, and the giftedness is there already, and it provides a foundation on which they can build through hard work. Their efforts then seem awesome, even superhuman, to the rest of us.
One of my all time favorite movies was “Chariots of Fire” in which olympic runner, Eric Liddell, an awesome distance runner in his era, and also a Christian, said “when I run I feel His pleasure.”
Giftedness is a circle that is complete when the gifted one gives thanks to the Creator for the gift received.
Tebowing should be pronounced by Christians in the same way as “bowing before God”. It is Te-bowing. 316 316 316
Perhaps Tebow’s acknowledging God for his gift is a message to us from God about the wonderful gift of freedom in a free land that we’ve been given. It would then be a message that we would be best served by thanking God for that gift.
They will be speechless, and they will bow the knee, involuntarily, but they will bow the knee.

:)
I hope Denver wins the Super Bowl 31-6.
that would be pure win!
I thiunk they should lose to the Packers 31-6....they should remain humble you know. Besides the colors of Heaven are GOLD...and maybe green??
Two more examples of incredibly gifted children: Akaine and Evancho.
just another reason for me NOT to watch the C-BS pre/post game shows
Awesome links, A-G. Thank you.
From the looks of things, something powerful is beside him. Though, it seems a bit strange for God to choose football, and choose Tebow, to get his message out. But who am I to judge?
All these 316’s have me a bit taken back.
Go Tebow!
I am a believer!
Just stick around here long enough, there are plenty here who will disabuse you of that misconception.
In fact, try expressing support for the idea of a Sarah Palin presidency. Despite the fact that virtually all the regulars here will adamantly proclaim their own "conservative" credentials, you'll get raped repeatedly with snide comments egging on the perps from the slunkish peanut gallery.

“Secular Progressives”
Make that “Communist Revolutionaries” who want to close churches and turn them into warehouses.
(Scu*bags one and all)
IMHO
They know.
The media is comprised of liberals. We like to think sports is one of the areas in our society that is immune from the prevailing anti God PC group think, but it is not. They have to mock him because he's dangerous. He represents those of us who believe in God above all else.
I think what makes Tim Tebow so dangerous is his response to his critics. He is always polite, humble and positive and most importantly he always gives credit to God. In being so public about his faith and being such a good example of how to respond to critics Tebow forces people to consider which side they are on. Are we on the side of those that don't think faith is important, or are we on the side that believes all glory is to be given to God.
Not only were there 316 passing yards, but the Denver time of possession was 31 minutes 6 seconds.
I missed where these classless gutter dwellers mockingly got on their knees and stuck their butts in the air to debase Allah. The bigoted cowards know they would get their butts kicked.
“I think it’s disgusting that sports commentators are ridiculing Tebow!”
I’m not so sure that they are really ridiculing Tebow. I think they are simply trying to make light humor out of the fact that Tebow might actually be on to something. The NFL has never seen anything quite like this.
