Soon the conservative candidates are going to have to unite under 1 candidate or Romney wins by splitting the votes.

Anti-Romney troika is ten points higher than Romney (18+17+5). But Romney is 12 points ahead of the nearest anti-Romney.

Things are breaking just as Romney wants them.

If Newt or Santorum dropped out and endorsed each other then Romney would be toast.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the Santuckabee surge.

Conservatives splitting their vote, giving the nomination to Romney.

When will some of these idiot Americans realize that the only candidate that can unscramble the political idiots in Washington is Newt. He did it before and he will do it again. None of the other candidates can match his ability to work within the complicated mess Washington is except Newt. He is not perfect but he is a hard fighter.

It is still very early.

After SC and FL, if Newt and Santorum are still splitting the vote and if Perry and Huntsman are still in the race, then we can start to talk strategery.

Don’t be foolish and underestimate this election and it’s candidates....we have seen in the past things can change quickly....where was Reagan at this time? and others who shot past the projection of the polls. Nope, I’m still saying Newt will come up and out of this when it matters he does....not because we or the media think this election has to go.

this national #s? Interesting to see Newt inching back up slightly. After SC, the anti-Romneys need to work down to one, or Romney is going to coast to a lead. If Perry doesn’t make a big comeback, he needs to get out at that point. Actually, if he stays at 5% a couple days before SC, he needs to get out before. If he sees an increase in the days ahead, I am happy to see him stick around...for now.

After SC and FL it’ll be too late by far. Coalescing around the 1 viable ABR conservative should’ve already happened a month ago.

I think it is reasonable from each of their perspectives to let the primaries unfold for at least a few more states and see whether one pulls ahead and the other fades.

I am stating that so far Romney’s only chance to win - getting the conservative vote split - is holding up. At some point, he will kick in the way McCain did in 2008 as a prohibitive frontrunner. We can’t wait until that point to figure out how to coalesce around one anti-Romney.
