I think you misread the post (I did), because it was poorly written.

He/She said (to paraphrase), “I’d rather vote for Newt than see Romney lose in the General.”

What he/she meant to say was “I’m willing to vote for either Gingrich or Santorum, rather than wind up with Romney as the nominee, who will, in turn (he/she’s implying, but not clearly stating), go on to lose the general election.”

I think I read your post correct. I was asking if you were willing to vote for someone you didn’t fully support in order to vote against someone you support less. That’s holding your nose and voting... something that’s happened since Adams and Jefferson ran against each other and something that some people insist they will never do.
