“Newton Leroy Gingrich has been calling President Obama “the best food stamp president” for months, but after plummeting in the polls and finishing fourth in Iowa, he must have decided that this approach was too subtle. So, on Thursday in New Hampshire, he sharpened the shiv and dug it in deeper, saying, “I’m prepared, if the N.A.A.C.P. invites me, I’ll go to their convention and talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps.” On Friday, Gingrich defended himself, as usual, by insisting that exactly what he said wasn’t exactly what he said. He was advocating for African-Americans, not disparaging them”.....

How could anyone take that in a bad way....helping someone get a job is a good thing not a bad thing.................

Were you watching the CBS Morning Show when Gingrich actually said: “I’m prepared, if the N.A.A.C.P. invites me, I’ll go to their convention and talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps.”?

Well, I happened to be watching that interview, because I wanted to see Gingrich as either he, Romney, or Santorum will likely be the Republican presidential nominee. And the way that statement came across was about as condescending, patronizing, and insulting to a group as any statement I have ever heard uttered.

You ask in your post: “How could anyone take that in a bad way”?

My question would be, how could anybody read those words and not see that any member of the targeted group would see that as Gingrich telling them that he thinks the African-American Community would rather take “food stamps” than go to work?
