Were you watching the CBS Morning Show when Gingrich actually said: “I’m prepared, if the N.A.A.C.P. invites me, I’ll go to their convention and talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps.”?
Well, I happened to be watching that interview, because I wanted to see Gingrich as either he, Romney, or Santorum will likely be the Republican presidential nominee. And the way that statement came across was about as condescending, patronizing, and insulting to a group as any statement I have ever heard uttered.
You ask in your post: “How could anyone take that in a bad way”?
My question would be, how could anybody read those words and not see that any member of the targeted group would see that as Gingrich telling them that he thinks the African-American Community would rather take “food stamps” than go to work?
Last time I checked, the Black Community had a 16% Unemployment Rate. Even the latest Obama cooked numbers didn't change that. Looks like Obama is screwing Blacks more that Newt could ever do.
I guess I didn't hear it the way you did because I'm just one of those Blue Collar Crackers that Obama won't be targeting for support in his reelection. (OR) you are absolutely correct and Newt is a Bigot.
