We shop at both Penny’s and Kohl’s. As with you, we buy a lot of clothes there. Also appliances when it comes to Kohl’s. We just picked up a new toaster and electric grill at Kohl’s after the Christmas holiday. Really good prices.
My guess would be, they really have to discount deeply due to the economy and that’s what’s hurting their profitability. I may be wrong, but it would seem that way to me.

I tend to agree. I buy a lot of clothing from Kohl’s (in my town, I’m more likely to find stuff that’s a bit different and more stylish there), and some things from Penney’s. At both stores, everything is always on sale and the prices are very low.
I don't shop at Kohl's unless I get the 30% discount card in the mail and the $10 rebate at check out for each $50 spent. They are in all of the lower 48 states, so some store are likely not performing as expected..
All during the holidays, Kohl's was PACKED... and, people weren' just looking.. they were BUYING tons of stuff...
But then.. here on the east side of Louisville, people are still building houses... So, we're not really representative.
