The Royal Navy's most formidable warship is being sent to the Gulf for its first mission as tensions rise in the strategically vital region, it can be disclosed. Naval commanders believe the deployment of HMS Daring, a Type 45 destroyer, will send a significant message to the Iranians because of the firepower and world-beating technology carried by the warship.Philip Hammond, the Defence Secretary, has publicly warned Iran that any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would be "illegal and unsuccessful".

I am beginning to feel like a repeat in history might happen.

Like the HOOD. One shot.

The Iranians may have something as extreme as a nuclear mine already awaiting.

Is that a JAS-39 Gripen off the stern?

It is primarily an anti-air platform built to augment US carrier groups. Tests show there’s not much it can’t see and kill in the air within 120 km. It can also be outfitted to do a decent anti-ship job against small (4-8 ship) formations.

Not anything like what the UK should be able to field, but not a joke either.

Anytime the Brits present their manhood, I’m in favor and cheering.

Target Malmo next. When you Brits are done with that, attack the muslim parts of Paris. Sarkozy will have a fit, but so what. Merkel won’t mind.

It can do the work that 4-5 of the previous model can do. It’s one helluva anti-air platform.

"Like the HOOD. One shot."

Bad news when your magazines are hit.

What were there, 2 or 3 survivors?

No, it’s a Eurofighter Typhoon. I’m surprised how smokey the engine exhaust is....What did they have to resort to russian engines ? You could see that trail from dozens of miles out !

The British Navy got so incredibly lucky in one lucky hit that jammed the Bismark’s rudder. I sometimes wonder if it was divine intervention. Another couple of hours and it would have been under German Air umbrella.

Then again Hood was equally unlucky tho from what I have read, the Bismark would have sunk it anyway.

>Why weren’t the Western navies out for blood off Somalia shutting down these joke pirates?<

.
Why bother using the USN?

Zap the basterds with a Hellfire using a common drone.

I think that's heat distortion rather than smoke.

wiki -

In total there are 79 commissioned ships in the navy. 19 of the commissioned vessels are major surface combatants (6 guided missile destroyers and 13 frigates) and 11 are nuclear powered submarines (4 ballistic missile submarines and 7 fleet submarines). In addition the Navy possesses an aircraft carrier, a helicopter carrier and 2 landing platform docks.

so, its the latest greatest ship but not the only one. sounds like a formidible piece of kit..besides the greatest ship in any navy is the SSBN hands down.

Re:

That's not the HMS Hood above.

That's HMS Barham , a Queen Elisabeth Class Battleship, sinking on 25th November 1941. She was the only British battleship sunk by a U-Boat. The film of the Barham capsizing and blowing up is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HSY94QVIss

I am pretty sure a U-Boat sank a British battleship in Scapa Flow.
