Just days after praising his rival GOP presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich took aim at Rick Santorums congressional record and said he would be considered the junior partner in a match-up between the two Republican hopefuls.
If you think of us as partners, he would clearly in historical experience have been the junior partner, Gingrich said Thursday on the campaign trail. Hes not a bad person, I want to be clear about this, but I dont know that he has any track record of being able to organize a large-scale campaign.

Gaffe. Newt may or may not be right that Santorum somehow is a lesser guy, but just damn: You don’t CALL HIM “junior partner.” If the MSM tries to trick you into such a statement, just chuckle and say, “Well, I’m running for the top spot, not the undercard, and Rick is too. I’ll leave it at that.”
Newt, puffing yourself up to look real big barely works for the kitten and the pufferfish. It’s tautological that you are the more senior. But you are not trustworthy, and it’s not just about sex. You will do what you believe benefits you most. You don’t seem to be able to delay gratification. Let’s put it this way: I’d rather be in a stuck elevator with Santorum than you.
The human hand grenade about to pop off.
I watched the video. I did not see the “Junior Partner” attacking the “Senior Partner”. Did I miss something?
Agreed..... Newt in no way shape or form threw down a gauntlet of any kind against santorum. This is just the msm trying to splinter the conservatives (again) and it is surprising how many bite... if you are taking flak, then you must be over the target. Look at who the libs are throwing mud at, and you will know who they fear the most
While Newt and Rick work it out amongst themselves regarding who’s on top of our ticket, I know who the junior junior partner is of our three remaining pretty good true conservative candidates.
From the new SC poll just in from American Research Group
Gingrich 24% !!!
Paul 9%
PERRY 2% ..Yikes! Perry may be out of the discussion.
Willard 31%
Santorum 24% !!!
On Greta he clarified saying they were friends, had worked together for 20 years, were mavericks and that He, Santorum was the junior to him when they were in office together.
I fail to see how anyone can construe that he “Turned Fire” on Santorum.
Classic MSM FALSE headline designed to incite division. Newt saying that ‘based on historical experience, he would be senior to Rick’ is anything but ‘Turning Fire’. Good grief. MSM FAIL.
You aren’t this gullible in real life are you?
Perry should drop out. Ru Paul should drop out.
Wow... Santorum has surged in SC!
He had just as much right to do it as someone living in Section 8 housing in the school district and paying zero property tax.
Penn Hills sued because their is an ultra-partisan Democrat b*tch with influence on their board who wanted to make political points with it. The son of this same b*tch was recently convicted of being part of a home burglary ring.
The Penn Hills School District recovered the money because Santorum voluntarily paid it back. Not because he had to, but because he simply didn't care to make a political issue of it.
I know what the h*ll I'm talking about because I actually live in the area and are familiar with the case. Not because I'm reciting Bob Casey Jr's. campaign talking points.
Hey it’s still early, Newt still has some time to attack
the Junior Partner in a meaningful way. After all Newt is sitting on a huge war chest. Give him a little time. He’s
easing into his attacks of the Junior Partner.
And the infighting continues while Romney doesn’t lift a finger.
Well, lets go to the actual record. Newt Gingrich last ran for elected office in 1998. His district was the most heavily republican in Georgia. The total votes case in that election were about 200,000. Not that Gingrich had to campaign at all, he won 70% of the vote.
Santorum's last election, 2006. There were 4 MILLION votes case. That is 20 times as many people, 20 times the size of the electorate that Gingrich had to campaign for.
It is clear that, comparing the two men on how big a campaign they have had to endure, Gingrich is the one with the piddling record, the "junior partner", and Santorum is the heavy-hitter who has run a large campaign.
I certainly agree that the headline is “ginned up.” (I still wouldn’t have referred to a two-term former Senator and rival GOP presidential candidate as a “junior partner,” even if I were the former Speaker of the House who indeed WAS senior when the other guy first arrived in Washington. It just sounds condescending even if it isn’t meant that way.)
Look for more MSM headlines exaggerating GOP fractiousness in the months ahead. (Some will be true, esp. if Romney is nominated ...!)
I believe they’re about even when you average today’s polls.
Go Newt! Go Rick #1! Get Our Rick #2!
2012 Republican Presidential Nomination Gallup Tracking
Romney 27, Gingrich 19, Santorum 15, Paul 12, Perry 6
Governor Perry will. Uncle Nutjob Paul will never.
Paul Ryan is what Newt Gingrich once was. I will still vote for Newt if he is the eventual nominee, but not with anywhere near the same enthusiasm which I would vote for Rick Santorum.
FWIW, I still like young Santorum who had fire in the belly like Paul Ryan when he first went to congress better than the current version. But his deterioration has been nowhere near as far or as fast as that of Newt Gingrich. He appears to have learned more in his five years out of congress than Gingrich has in more than a decade out.
