I have a hard tim believing that. For example:

A GS-5 makes 30K in DC
A GS-7 makes 37K in DC
A GS-9 makes 42K in DC

That is barely national average and those are the majority of the workers and the ones that actually do the work. Now if you want to get rid of the SCS’ now that would be a great start.

Government workers already make, on average, 30% more than the private sector worker. Yes, Washington is expensive so is San Francisco, New York, etc.

Mainly because the private sector includes all the McDonald’s workers which the federal government does not have any. However, the federal government’s average worker gets paid around 40K. It is not a get rich type of program. It is easy to manipulate numbers and facts. We complain that Obama manipulates the jobless numbers but cannot believe that the federal government numbers might not be manipulated. You can’t have it both ways. Does the federal government need trimmed? Yes, but to say that they make too much money is absurd.

You have a hard time believing what, exactly?

Many government jobs, eg interns, are also low paying. Compare the benefits and pension plans of government workers to those of the private sector as well.

I only have a hard time believing that government workers are rich. The ones I have dealt with are not. I have ONLY worked with DOD workers. They seem like hard workers to me. I mean they work with the military folks and certainly aren’t running out the door at knock off time. They often begin meetings at 4 when a crises is going on.

What US a GS-5, etc.? How much do they contribute to their pensions and health insurance? How many paid vacation and holidays do they get each year? It would not surprise me if it is TWICE the # of days of the private sector.

The get 4 hours of vacation time a time period so 1 day a month so they get 12 days a year. They do pay for their health care with a monthly charge. They contribute to a TSP (Thrift Saving Plan) which is their retirement since 1987. The reason that people think that Government Employees get so much money is because the Baby Boomers are retiring with nice retirement but since 1987 those nice retirements are no more.

I don’t know if they are rich, never said they were, but they are VASTLY overpaid for what they do. My first 2 years and 8 months with the g. were with Dept of Navy here in DC. I was a GS3, I believe, and I was overpaid for what I was doing, and I never worked a second of overtime.

You seem to be fixated on the point that a lot of g. defenders are: Yes, I am sure that out of 1 or 2 million employees, there are at least a few who a. work hard, b. could make more in the priv. sector, and c. (the big one) actually do work that is consitutional in nature and valuable. How many? 3? 300? It ain’t a lot.

Thank you for supporting your country. That was great. It was a good start but as a GS-3, you were entry level and probably did was was directed to you. The guy in the mail room at a big company does do more than what is asked either.

Why would you get rid of the Senior Executive Service? (I think that is what you meant by SCS)

The guy in the mail room would work more hours for less work, would not have promotions virtually guaranteed, and could actually be fired. Look, if you want to say g. employees are decent people, fine, but they are overpaid and underworked (not their fault) and they “work” at undermining and destroying the nation and the constitution every day (excepting SOME people in DOD, etc.), also not really their fault. The SYSTEM is a nightmare, even if the people are not.

You have valid points. I believe an overhaul will be done but I just hope that those in already are not overly screwed. I guess I am moderate on Government workers due to working 24 years with the DOD folks. But I am not all lost because I agree with getting rid of the DEPT of Defense, Energy, EPA, IRS, and others including that dreadful Homeland Security.

Yes. SES. lol. They are the folks that are the highest paid and bring the average of the government worker so high. They are the figurehead and basically just go to Congress to try to get more money for their respective Department. I have only worked with a few but that was my experience. Most are retired Admirals and Generals who don’t need to be paid that much.

I do not know how many million federal employees we have, but there are less than 1000 flag officers (O-7 to O-10) and about 7000 SES folks. The salaries of these senior managers mathematically cannot skew the average federal salary much at all.

FACT

It’s the government higher ups that are making the big, unrealistic money and benefits. The common folk blue collar fed workers are actually paid less than comparable private sector workers.
