Tea party favorite and pro-life conservative Sarah Palin and her family were viciously attacked to the point she chose not to run.
Congressional Tea Party Caucus leader and constitutional pro-life conservative Michele Bachmann had early promise, but I guess came across as too "shrill" and consequently her numbers driven down to the point she exited.
Successful pro-life conservative Texas Governor Perry hit the race at the top but due to missteps and less than stellar debate performances soon fizzled and is now all but gone.
Pro-life conservative businessman Cain and his famous 9-9-9 plan had promise, but was driven out due to indefensible allegations.
Pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative Newt Gingrich reinvigorated his campaign and soared to the top of the national polls, but was unacceptable to the establishment and apparently also unacceptable to the "true conservatives" among us and his numbers are now plummeting
You'd think "unquestionably" pro-life, pro-family conservative Rick Santorum whose recent surge took him to a tie in Iowa and who's now surging in the national polls might be good enough to stand against Romney for the base, but looks like there are "true conservatives" now attacking HIM as not good enough.
Well, drive them all out and who's left?
Huntsman? Who? Moonbat Paul?
Ideas anyone? Should we all continue attacking the conservatives we don't like until we drive them all out?
Personally, I could easily have lived with Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt or Santorum and would be proud to enthusiastically support any of them, warts and all. Any one of them is infinitely better than Obama or Romney.
But if we don't land on one soon and raise him up over Romney, guess who we're going to be stuck with? And it ain't going to be pretty. And if abortionist/statist/progressive Romney (or moonbat Paul) is the one, might as well get used to four more years of Obama. I won't vote for or support either one of those two.
I'd suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites. Who knows? May even discover an acceptable conservative (if not a great conservative) in the bunch. We've never had a perfect conservative yet. Not even the magnificent Ronald Reagan. We and they all have warts.
But we do want to have a candidate with at least an actual CONSERVATIVE record and not an out and out liberal progressive RINO. So let's compare their records and their actual conservative accomplishments but not try to destroy them personally.
God bless and may the best CONSERVATIVE be our nominee.
Gingrich - Santorum 2012.
I can live with that. However,I won't support Perry under any circumstances. He's as much a charlatan as Romney is and is now poised to give Romney a boost in SC by diminishing Newt and Santorum instead of doing the right thing for conservatism and bowing out. Besides, Obama would eviscerate him in any event.
So Newt and Santorum it will be for me, albeit warily. Obama must be stopped and statist RINOs need not apply.
Romney is the MSM-selected republican candidate and they are working full-time to ensure he is the one on the ballot come November.
All candidates were ruthlessly attacked when they rose above Romney. They were attacked until they fell below him.
All.
Romney never suffered MSM attacks because the MSM wants to chose for us, and their choice is another McLame.
Mark my words, IF Romney is the nominee, then, and only then, will the MSM “investigate” him and they will attack him and his numbers will fall, fast.
The MSM will do exactly what they did with McLame. McLame was the MSM choice of the republican field and, oh how reasonable he was, a “maverick” willing to work both sides. . .then McLame got the republican nod and WHAM, the MSM turned on him like Cujo after tussling with a rabid raccoon.
The MSM will do this because they are what they are, rabid liberals and they will do what they have to spread the disease, and that disease is The Messiahs victory.
Mark my words, the MSM will leave Romney alone until we have no where else to go. Then, after the MSM goes “Cujo” on him, we will truly have no where else to go.
Why? Because when Cujo’s in the MSM attack they will infect the republican/conservative/independent voters.
Those infected voters will find themselves frothing at the mouth, angry at Romney and lamenting we have no one left that is willing to lead the republican/conservative cause.
Another victory for The Messiah. . .Cujo.
I would NOT vote for a RINO like Romney or a crackpot like Paul under any circumstances.
Grant’s main flaw was drink.
Well said, but if you have the choice between Obama & Romney are you going to NOT vote at all and let Obama win again?
Indeed we have to try as hard as we can to get the BEST Conservative candidate to WIN the primary process, but if we fail, it makes no sense at all to just surrender our vote to the fascist/socialists and give up, doncha think?
Clearly, even a RINO is better than a fascist thug like President Obeyme Narcissis.
I despised McCain but voted for him because it was a choice between Evil vs. a Stupid RINO. Stupid RINO would have been better than Evil, correct?
Think about it...
At least with Santorum there is a glimmer of hope now.
Sometimes I think Freepers are perfectionists but not realists. If things are becoming clear that we can’t have our 100% Conservative candidate and now our only choice is a 50% conservative vs an Evil Socialist Thug, wouldn’t you rather have the 50% conservative than the 100% Evil Thug?
If conservatives think they’re accomplishing something by protesting/abstaining from voting for a 50% conservative vote, they are also NOT voting AGAINST the Evil Thug and thus, they’re shooting themselves in the foot.
Again, this isn’t a pump for Romney, but I believe if Santorum or Newt don’t win the primaries, it then becomes “Anything But Obama.”
I know of several Ron Paul volunteer satellites - business who also distribute bumper stickers, signs, whatnot - that were there in ‘08 and are not there now.
In fact, I haven’t seen any.. have you, Arrowhead?
I can't believe the knat-short memories of FReepers. It's like this in EVERY race, with BOTH political parties every election season. Doesn't anyone remember the venom between Zero, Hilary and the others?
As soon as a frontrunner is solidified, most Party affiliates will coalesce around him, even most of the former candidates. This process is NOT unprecedented.
Judging from watching Facebook traffic, i agree. The young 20-somethings who listen to their professors have been brainwashed. Reading some of their comments just saddens me. Many of them are conservatives and don't even realize it yet. If things continue as they are, they'll never get the chance to find out until they wake up and find themselves in the 2nd Revolution. :/
How do you know that?
In my view a Romney nomination guarantees a Tea Party POTUS candidate on the ballot in most red states and a Clintonian plurality win for Baraq.
I watched each one of the nominees [no Huntsman] make an impressive short term rise .... then a steep decline. I think, had Iowa not happened, Santorum, too, would sink in the polls.
I really like Perry and perhaps naively thought there might be a second round of the roller coaster and Perry would have a second chance. Perry is in the mold of a national GOP winner.
I don’t like Newt and strongly feel he cannot win in a general election. If Perry does’t spark, then it’s Santorum for me but I have doubts about Santorum’s appeal in the general election.
Sigh.
Which, "paultard"? Hell what would you call 'em?
They are surely surrender monkey tards for Paul. Dr. Paul.
I do like and support him.
Smoke a joint and spit on Israel, close all the bases!
Sorry for the vitriol, I just can't stand Paul.
And no, vitriol isn't a drug and Paul won't legalize it. ;- )
This true conservative can live with Santorum. While not my first pick for president, he is the only one left standing that I can vote for without holding my nose.
It’s time for Rick Perry and Newt to drop out before it’s too late for the conservative side of the equation.
>>>Clearly, even a RINO is better than a fascist thug like President Obeyme Narcissis.
Romney v. 0bama is like being in a bus going off a cliff at 40mph vs. 100mph. I want off the damn bus.
I can’t believe you did that.
One of these is NOT like the others. Big time!
Well, Sir, I just spent 9 days fighting for Rick Perry in Iowa and intend to continue to do so. I’d suggest that everyone else take a look at their previous biases and give the Governor at least a chance in the up coming back to back debates in New Hampshire on January 7th and 8th.
That is my thoughts exactly. Should we end up with Paul or Romney as the president, 4 years later the GOP will be totally destroyed, Dems will get WH, House and Senate and then America will be ABSOLUTELY destroyed. Should we end up with Obama again, damage will be done, but it will mark the end of the Democrat Party. We need, as Palin said, to gain in the House and Senate to control Obama best as we can if he wins. Should we allow the GOP establishment, which isn't any better than the Dems, to be successful in shoving Romney down our throats, we should do what we can to destroy the GOP because the party serves no useful purpose.
Additionlly, the president is the executive of the Executive branch. As such, he sets policy. Setting policy includes deciding how to enforce the laws passed by Congress.
Case in point, Obama and Holder refuse to enforce DOMA. So the candidate’s social conservative values are essential in determining how he will enforce the law and whom he will appoint to interpret the law. All fiscal conservative values and no social conservative values is a disaster and so is all social/no fiscal conservative values. We must have a good combination of both sets of values.
