South Carolina Tea Partiers Wish Romney Would Just Go Away
npr.org ^ | 1/4/2012 | FRANK JAMES

Talk with Tea Party leaders here in South Carolina and you quickly realize that the toughest job in the Mitt Romney campaign would be the assignment of doing outreach to these activists. Maybe not a mission impossible, but close.

They really want no part of Romney. And there appears to be little he could say or do between now and Jan. 21, the date of the South Carolina primary, to change that.

The Massachusetts health law Romney enacted as governor with its individual mandate called Romneycare by critics is just one of several reasons they give for their animus.

There are Romney's policy-position switches that some have less charitably called flip flops. And there's Romney's failure, at least in Tea Party activists' eyes, to reach out to them directly.

"There's no Tea Partier that I talk to in the state or nationally that would want to promote Romney," said Karen Martin who leads the Spartanburg Tea Party. "Other than the people that have come out publicly and endorsed Mitt Romney and the people left over from his 2008 campaign, I do not personally know anyone that does not despise Mitt Romney and doesn't hate the idea of him being our nominee..."

Wow. Good for South Carolina. Now Rick Santorum won't have to worry about him. Newt is going to do the heavy work in NH. So it is possible for Santorum to win NH and SC. This is turning out pretty good. Newt getting rid of Romney in NH and the Tea Partiers getting rid of Romney in SC. Wow Rick Santorum is going to be fine.

Title Pretty much sums it up...There is NOTHING RINO Romney can do to get my support. Gov. Haley miscalculated and made a bad mistake endorsing Romney and it isn’t sitting well with the Tea Party..... GAME ON!(Go Away MITTENS Establisment OUT NOW!)

Sounds like Willard is in big trouble in SC. It’s important that the two conservatives, Newt & Santorum along with the other Mormon, Huntsman triple team Willard hard and heavy. No deserters. No weak hearts. No fear.

As far as Paul is concerned, he’s useless. Ignore the goof.

If Santorum doesn’t do some heavy lifting himself and throw mitt to the curb, he may be in for a surprise. He’ll immediately look like another MB.

And if they get out and vote they won’t have to worry about him.

Good point. If Newt scores a knockdown on Mitt, he’s the default front-runner by TKO. It would certainly suck any oxygen out of Santorum’s campaign.

Rick has to take a few whacks himself.

Romney needs to be kept in Massachusetts, or confined to NYC with Bloomberg.

::Sigh:: So do I.

I hope he's proud of himself trying to give us the umpteenth "moderate" Republican nominee since 1988.

Don’t feel bad ... my governor, Bobby Jindal, threw in with Perry the first week Perry ran. I make my disgust known at every possible opportunity.

Surely you jest. Newt, faux conservative that he is, will not steal votes from Romney. And your saying it proves what I’ve been saying all along. To wit: Gingrich, whether by choice or extortion (Pelosi has the goods on him)will not govern conservatively. That is the only thing that might entice a handful of of NH voters to go with him.

It will be Romney by a huge margin. Doesn’t really matter for Santorum in the long run because that will be Romney’s high water mark. Next comes SC. People here do not like Gingrich or Romney(care).

Despite “winning” Iowa by 8 votes it was really a huge loss for Romney. The GOP tried every trick in the book to give the bum a big win there. Didn’t happen. More importantly it opened the door to Santorum. Conservatives now have a candidate we can rally behind and we will.

Santorum is the only remaining GOP/conservative candidate free of baggage and willig to talk principle. This will contrast positively with the Usurping Marxist Onada.

Go away Mittens.

Hopefully the RINO will have enough common sense to just write off South Carolina and not waste his time.

I really hope the Tea Party aound the country has the same attitude towards Mittens as the SC Tea Party does.

God forbid if Mittens is the nominee, I would hope the Tea Party could put up a presidential candidate and focus mainly on the House and Senate races.
