So because Americans are war-weary, we need a candidate that sucks up to Iranian tyrants and those that want to befriend them? Don’t think so.

Good for Palin.

The message was sent loud and clear in Iowa: 44 percent of Independents who participated voted for Ron Paul, as did every age demographic under 40 by wide margins, as did those who voted for the “True Conservative” in the race and those who voted because of government spending and the budget deficit.

The Ron Paul supporters message is this: no more wasteful and expensive neocon foreign wars for “dumbocracy,” no more neocon foreign wars that young people are expected to fight and pay for, no more wasteful big government spending programs in the name of “compassionate conservatism,” no more Wall Street bailouts for hedge fund managers, no more “No Child Left Behind” nonsense, etc.

Young people and Independents are on board with the Constitution, with the family, with states’ rights, with limited government, with opposing the welfare state, with the ideal of liberty and personal freedom ... NOT on board with a soaring national debt, with endless wars in the Middle East, with the Wall Street bailout, with government spending on utopian schemes like “No Child Left Behind,” with the Pentagon/HHS welfare/warfare state.

The neocon globalists like Newt Gingrich who believe American foreign policy should be a game of Risk with young people saddling up to go fight WW3 to bring on Armageddon (or for women’s rights and democracy in Iraq or Iran or Vietnam) are no longer the mainstream.

Hold a two for one bong sale on election days and the Paulbots will miss the polls.

Their support is about as far reaching as Howard Dean’s minions in Iowa in 2004.

I think Paul would not be poling as well as he has if he was only getting nutcase support. I think he’s poling as well as he does because he’s the only candidate who specifically promises to cxut the government, and remembers which department he plans to eliminate. I hope Santorum will be the remedy for this. If I’m right, Santorum will drain away most of that support from Paul. He won’t if he insults them for having supported paul.

The problem with Paul and his disciples isn't that we're war weary and broke (which we are). It's that they blame Israel for everything, and do so reflexively and instinctively.

Her strongest comments came for Paul, however, saying "the GOP had better not marginalize Ron Paul and his supporters after this" because "a lot of Americans are war-weary and we are broke" and Paul has reached that constituency well. She warned that the GOP "better work with them."

Sarah Palin is totally right in expressing the heart of the matter. And as our national financial situation gets worse and worse, this sentiment will only strengthen. The national balance sheet will ensure an end to the era of endless national crusades.

Say what you will, but my take on her statement is that Palin's being Palin - and showing her most underrated side: consensus-building. Her words may not reach as much over this particular statement, but she's showing a side to her that profoundly belies the stereotype of her as an 'extremist'. Good on her.

Y'know, even if she doesn't run for any office again, she's still done a lot for American conservatism. A helluva lot, considering that she's a human being and not Wonder Woman. She's suffered a lot for the cause too, and so has her family.

My point? Let Palin be Palin. She's a lot more than a stirring speech. I'm not trying to pull any guilt-strings here, and I specifically disclaim any such implication, but I sometimes wonder if she's been thanked enough.

We don’t want to alienate them. We want them to leave the Party of their own volition.

Half of Paul’s voters are nutcases who probably would never vote for a regular Republican.

The rest are sensible people who we don’t need to worry about being little crybabies cause someone talked bad about Uncle Ronny.

Palin is 100% correct despite what people in here want to believe. These voters arn’t all stupid pot-smokers. They know the country is going bankrupt, and it is. They know we can’t afford a war with Iran, and we can’t. They know the government continues to grow out of control, and it is.

I agree Ron Paul himself is a kook. But where are the Paul voters wrong as far as the issues are concerned?

And Santorum won’t attract any Paul voters. His Senate record is for more big government. They will go vote 3rd party if Santorum wins. And that’s going to give Obama a 2nd term.

This is why Palin is saying this now....

My first thought upon hearing this is she knows the supporters are annoying, disruptive thugs (and potentially dangerous). They freak out at any criticism and attack. She is trying to keep them from screwing with her, IMO.

Thanks for posting this. It’s an “old school” FR thread, and I really miss those. Yeah, the furniture gets tossed around, but you get some good thought-provoking comments out of the crucible. Not the typical Ron Paul thread.

For later comments....
