After a disappointing fifth-place finish in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, Texas Governor Rick Perry said he is going home to Texas to assess "whether there is a path forward for myself in this race."
"With the voters' decision tonight in Iowa, I've decided to return to Texas, assess the results of tonight's caucus, determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race," Perry told supporters at the end of the night.
The candidate, once considered a frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination, earned just 10 percent on Tuesday's contest with more

you’re a mess...LMAO!
I never understood why CW got criticized for supporting her candidate. She was never, from what I saw, abusive or foul-mouthed (unlike many of the supporters of other candidates) and she had every right to be in favor of Perry. Why not?
At the start, I thought he was good, but unfortunately I felt that he couldn’t support his opinions and was very similar to Bush in being inarticulate when challenged. He was probably great in Texas and great with a friendly audience. GW Bush was, too; I saw it with my own two eyes in Florida once, when he appeared with Jeb, and just really captivated the audience. But I just didn’t think Perry had what it took to convince anybody outside of his circle, just as Bush couldn’t do it outside of a friendly audience, and I obviously wasn’t the only one.
But why criticize CW for supporting her candidate in a way that was usually civil and even supported by rational postings of articles about him? Sounds to me like a reasonable attempt to convince, which is what this is all about.
It ain’t over, you Paulacks, Mittbots and Bachmann Turncoats!
That was nice. I could have called her what she is, a RINO troll. That's not the label I gave her it was given her by the proprietors of this forum.
And I do "do unto others". I have been attacked by nearly every Perry supporter in this forum. I've been called vile names, I've been told I "hate Texas females and want them to die of cancer". What did I do to earn that disrespect? I have been critical of their chosen candidate. Given the vitriol directed at me by the person you defend, "who cares" was being nice.
Didn’t pPerry already announce today (Jan 4th) that he was heading to South Carolina and he was in...that he had thought about it and made this decision and that it was an easy decision to make?
That’s what I have been hearing all day long.
Which leaves Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, Paul and Huntsman for New Hampshire and probably through at least South Carolina.
I wanted Palin and then Cain. Now my pecking order is Santorum, Perry, Gingrich and Romney as a last, undesired resort if he wins the nominaytion.
Even with his flip flops and warts, if it comes to that, he would be less dangerous to the Republic than the blatantly marxist, Obama. I believe a GOP House and Senate that his heavy with Tea Party candidates will be able to reign Romney in. I believe Obama would od everything in his power with EOs, PDs, and his agencies in the cabinet to try and make and end run around congress and the constitution. He already is.
“I dont care. Santorum won and Perry got his a$$ handed to him. I am thrilled by the results. President Santorum will be wonderful and as I said, Perry can be the Ambassador of Brazil in the Santorum administration. It is a quite job and he does not have to talk.”
You’re delusional...lol. President Santorum? In your fantasy maybe...lol. Please come back to reality. Mittens will be your candidate and you will like it...lol
Yeah, one of the Perry supporters called me a racist KKK member because I didn’t support Ricardo’s in-state tuition. I was called a “Texas hater” and “Mexican hater” as well.
Let it be known: The Perry supporters were the ones who made it personal!
I thought that was ok, because he's a Christian. Wait until Romney has to finally answers questions about Joe Smith and becoming a god on the star Kolob! Boy, that'll be fun....!
Well I have nothing against Santorum; if he keeps on and does well after this, I’ll vote for him possibly. I basically like him a lot. I like Newt also, I would consider him too, even Huntsman. (he was my governor, I voted for him)
I don’t think Perry should be forced out either! After all, Fred Thompson didn’t leave the race until about 3 or 4 states races had gone by. Neither Perry, or any of the others left, should have to leave until 3 or 4 races have gone by!
I roll my eyes at the Santorum supporters. We've had enough "I, I, I... me, me, me" brat-itude with Obama. Rick's a whiny big gov't neocon, another flippin' lawyer with no executive experience, an establishment player who chose the establishment over principle. He did very well in Iowa because he's lived and breathed Iowa for over a year.
I do appreciate Santorum adding a focus on manufacturing to the debate. Maybe he'll be the balance to Romney's ticket.
You bet...
And the ugly reality is, considering what the dollar is worth or buys, even those making 10 bucks an hour, in reality are making about 4 bucks an hours.
It's why most working Americans nowadays are called the "Working poor". Their dollars don't buy cheet!
Most people don't want to see candidates grilled over their faith, regardless of what it is, nor do they want to see candidates grilled over their spouse or children.
I don't want to see faith or family brought into the political arena. Something has to be sacred, because the media sure isn't gonna grill a liberal about anything.
naps. was posting that lie last night. He and his mob showed up on every Perry thread making nasty cracks and now they are trying to say they didn’t do it. Look at the KEYWORDS on this thread, same ole’ same ole’. Yeah they did it and now they are gloating. They act like democrats!
You are both ignoring that the Governor has protested the fact that Texas is forced to educate, feed and provide medical care for the child of any illegal in our public schools and has called for preventing them from crossing the border in the first place.
The Governor has not “gone illegal.”
Instead, in one very narrow case, the State of Texas has determined how to deal with what is:
there are illegal 17 and 18 year olds who were brought here as children,
who have been in our high schools at least 3 years.
The Feds will not deport them or their families.
They have assimilated and excelled enough to both graduate from a Texas high school and be accepted to a State college.
We decided that in light of their achievement and 3 years without being deported by the Feds, we wouldn’t charge them the non-resident tuition, just as we would anyone who lives in a county next to our border (for some Colleges, within a 100 miles) in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Mexico, or as we would for other US citizens and legal aliens who lived here one, not 3 years.
Sounds like the Feds have no heart.
