Americans Elect: Obama's Third-Party Tar Pit
American Spectator ^ | January 3, 2012 | Jared E. Peterson

Posted on 01/03/2012 3:14:38 PM PST by Neil E. Wright

Anyone with the remotest interest in replacing Barack Obama as America's president in 2012 should take his eyes off Iowa and the boring ups and downs of the race for the Republican nomination.

The real action that may well decide our next president is quietly going on elsewhere, in the state offices that qualify candidates and parties for the November 2012 presidential ballot.  You may not have heard much about a shadowy group called "Americans Elect" (it does not disclose its contributors because of alleged concerns that they might suffer loss of business or social contacts, and because it fancifully but only occasionally declares itself to be a 501[c] [4] tax-exempt organization [though it has qualified as a political party for ballot position in multiple states including Ohio, California, Nevada, and Arizona, which should deprive it of tax-exempt status]).  But if you haven't heard of Americans Elect, you soon will.

Given the organization's original moneybags founder and current "chairman," Peter Ackerman (mega-rich Wall Street 2008 Obama supporter), its stated goals, and the nature of American politics, it bids fair to decide who will prevail for the presidency in 2012.

Americans Elect is presently a tax-exempt organization (or a political party, at least in the states where it has qualified for the ballot -- one can't be sure which) with the stated goal of promoting a centrist third-party presidential candidate, to be selected from a nomination process that at least in part winnows candidates through internet voting.  It plans to gain access to the ballot in all 50 states, and it has already qualified in multiple states (see above for partial list).

At present, the organization has raised $22M (the first $5M from Wall Street heavy Peter Ackerman, about whom more later), and it is aiming for $35M, the sum its string-pullers believe ...

I figured these clowns out the first time I saw one of their representatives suggesting that Americans are tired of partisanship. That always goes to the same place.

Another one of Obama’s sneaky underhanded illegal scams to guarantee his re-election.

On second thought - who needs Obama scams - the GOP (and more than half of those who claim Republicanism) is doing all it can to re-elect Obama.

Some of the same folks who tried the “No Labels” crud - now they are repackaging it under another name. I guess they feel like when the get the right name they’ll pull the suckers in.

Is this the regurgitation of the “Unity ‘08” BS they were trying to sell?

I thought when Obama first ran for President that his attitude towards staying in office would resemble Mugabe or Chavez more than a normal US President. Because this is America, his methods have to be a little more devious than would be needed in Zimbabwe or Venezuela.

This is probably a fall-back option if Donald Trump doesn't decide on his own to run and if no other third-party candidates seem to have traction (Ron Paul, Gary Johnson). If this group runs a candidate, it may be someone who is completely unknown now, but the media will make him a household name in a week. Remember John Anderson in 1980.

Americans Elect was founded and is being built by high-level Democrat operatives with known Soros financing and connections.

"...his attitude towards staying in office would resemble Mugabe or Chavez..."

Indeed. It's wouldn't surprise me a bit to see two 'third-party' candidates splitting the vote - along with 'conservatives' being the greater participants. Dummies all.

Doug Schoen has been promoting this group on Fox News. He is one of the pollsters who wrote an op-ed saying Obama should step aside and let Hilary Clinton run in 2012. Maybe there’s a chance this group is a placeholder for Hilary? Against Obama, a failed president, and Romney, a sleazy Wall Street liar, Hilary could probably win.

Yes, only if Romney wins the nomination then I will either vote third party or write in my own candidate. But I will vote for every Republican down-ticket.

Without having to pay/contribute, every Free Republic reader ought to “freep the poll” of issues at www.americanselect.org I have to warn you that the registration (provide an e-mail, confirm an e-mail address and making a PIN) are going to discourage many. The questions/polling/aqnswers there is heavily slanted to the moon-beam side. When it comes to the nomination, I intend to vote in their system for the farthest leftist/communist they propose. Giving a moderate or strident libertarian this kind of ballot access will guarantee 0bama’s re-election.
