Santorum takes on Ron Paul over gun rights, abortion
Washington Post ^ | 1/3/2012 | Jennifer Rubin

Rick Santorum is on the eve of a game-changing election. He’s about to go from an also-ran, and largely ignored, candidate to the Cinderella candidate. He’ll be the featured player in the “But the real winner tonight is..." news stories. He’s already become the target of his opponents’ ire.

The Post reported that he told a group of Fox News reporters, “Ron Paul is disgusting.” Did he mean, you know, in general? I talked with his senior advisor Hogan Gidley, who explained that Santorum was reacting to Paul’s attacks on him, which are unmoored to any facts. On the Second Amendment, “He says Rick is anti-gun?! Guess who is a an NRA member and who has an A-plus rating from the NRA? Rick Santorum. Guess who doesn’t have an A-plus? Ron Paul.” Likewise, Gidley says Paul’s attacks on Santorum for being pro-choice are ludicrous. “Rick was asked about that. He said, ‘If I’m pro-choice, you’re going to have a hard time finding anyone who is pro-life.’”

The Santorum team thinks candidates who are skipping the New Hampshire primary for South Carolina are making a big mistake. “Rick from the get-go said he would be competing in the first three states.

Santorum may have the better game plan. It is true that since 1980 no Republican candidate has won the nomination without winning South Carolina. But it is also the case that no candidate has won South Carolina after losing badly in the first two states. If Santorum comes into New Hampshire with a head of steam, he could conceivably vault into second place, and with top-three finishes in both early states, it will be hard to argue he’s not the best positioned, perhaps the only candidate positioned, to beat Romney.

" I’m not sure what to think of this guy—I like what I’ve read about him, but I had the impression that he wasn’t going anywhere. "

That's because of all the propaganda, and spin from those who don't want to see Rick Santorum succeed but want their guys who are lower in the polls get the lead whom people have already took a look at and said ,, no, who's next ?

” No truer words were ever spoken. Calling Santorum out as a gun grabbing abortionist in slimy robocalls is all anyone needs to know about Paul and his son Rand who is out pimping this trash today for the ol’ man. “ with Mitt Romney’s blessings...

Yeah, he has the NRA hat on and everything. What a goofball.

As a NRA Life Member, I generally find myself wearing my NRA emblazoned hat when I need one. What is goofy about that?

Let’s just take a look at that photo. Do you see a hunter there, or a photo op? Do you see a new over and under prop or a hunter’s shotgun? See any blood or feathers on that birdvest? Think he’s got enough hunter orange on to be legal? I guess so!

What a goofball.

Didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings. Somehow Santorum’s hunting photo-op came across about like Kerry’s.

“you got one o’ them there huntin’ licenses fer we’uns?”

The difference between the two men is that one is an effete Brahmin gigolo from Boston and the other the son of a coal miner from Western PA where hunting is a religion. Santorum looks no different than any other dude here in PA on the first day of doe.

He carried Pennsylvania twice, including in 2000 when Bush lost the state.

2006 was a bad year for Republicans all over.

I guess it’s just me then. Rather than a Coal Miner, I pictured Santorum as the son of a federal government employee, who graduated from high school in suburban Chicago, and majored in political science at a big state school somwhere that is experiencing major scandals, went and got a masters at some urban college, went for doctoral work wherever he matriculated as an undergraduate, then finally upon interminable years as a student immediately embarked upon a career as a Federal Government Politician.

The beauty of Santorum IS his history. Unlike the pResident, he has transcripts from Penn State and (I believe) Pitt. And do we need another I y Leaguer? Unlike the one termer from Illinois, Hawaii Indonesia, He actually VOTED in the Senate. He has a consistent voting record. A plus from the NRA; absolutely pro-life; he supports marriage between a man and a woman ONLY; he has been speaking out against Jihadists since before 9/11. He is substance compared to Soetaro’s style only.

If he couldn’t get reelected in his own state it’s not good, guys. He might be a great conservative but he might not get elected.

However, I say, all behind him if he wins the primaries, vote the guy in, no quibbling, no Obama!
