Anyone who watched Santorum “fight” for reelection against Bob Casey in 2006 knows that Santorum is not someone we want as President.

I won’t see this ‘endorsement’ as having any credibility unless today - TODAY - Murdoch hangs the disgusting Allan Colmes by his own petard, and either Murdoch or Ailes crawls on their belly to publically plead for Santorum’s forgiveness that Colmes wasn’t fired on the spot yesterday. If ever a situation has called for IMMEDIATE, on-set expulsion, Colmes’ unspeakably vile behavior yesterday was it.

Santorum is a solid Social/Moral conservative. He is literally HATED by the homosexual crowd. Which makes him my friend.

He would be a natural pick for me because of our similar views, and I hope he beats Romeny and Paul in Iowa. I have not supported him because I believed that Newt was the best overall candidate (social/national defense/fiscal). I see Santorum as beomg a good VP choice to Newt to shore of Social Conservatives.

I don’t think, but I seldom get it right, that Santorum will fizzy after Iowa - IF he does well there. However, if Newt can’t win Iowa, I would trully love Santorum clean house in Iowa. IF he could continue it on succesfully for the rest of the primary season and win, I could definitely support him. However, I don’t think he will appeal outside of states where social/moral conservatives are a strong force.

I would like to see him as VP to another like Newt. Now if he sold out and ran with Romney....I still won’t vote for Romney.

Reagan had strong political support and money. Santorum doesn’t. That said I like him better than Newt. He shows some self restraint and is a solid conservative. I don’t see Santorum on a couch with Nancy P. laughing about ruining the US economy for the sake of liberal non-science.

Murdoch needs to Tweet Roger Ailes on this: FoxNews relentlessly pimps Mittens and pummels Santorum (as they did Bachmann and Cain before).

This is obviously being done to help Romney later get the nomination, by keeping Gingrich out.

If Newt is so great why did he collapse in Iowa? He sat on his fat ass while Paul and Romney ripped him to shreds and stole 20 point from him. LET THE PROCESS PLAY OUT. No one is royalty. Let them fight for it!

Yup. Newt began with a noble plan — to not go negative. When others did and attacked him, he didn’t respond with factual statements. Now, he’s turning into a whiner, and that’s never attractive. I don’t think he has what it takes.

Now that it appears Michelle Bachmann is fading off into the sunset, I believe Rick Santorum is our last hope to get a real conservative nominated this year.

I wish Rick luck tonight and hope he is still a valid candidate come March 6 (when my state primary is held).

I'm also sick of the argument some people are making that Romney is the only chance to beat Obama because he'll win over the moderates. The moderates will always tend to vote for the Democrat as was shown when McCain, Dole and other "moderate Republicans" were nominated. On the other hand, a true conservative will bring large numbers of independents and right-leaning Democrats into the GOP fold, as was clearly shown during the two Reagan elections.

Threads like this are very informative. FReepers spend three years out of four telling us how useless congressmen are, how out of touch, how they live in a Washington bubble, how they have no real world experience, how they are all corrupt. But that fourth year when given the choice between outside the beltway governors and long term congressmen with no executive experience they support the congressmen for president.

I can only think of one reason this completely illogical phenomenon:

Panic.

Ouch. That’s like the Kiss of Death. Why is he endorsing candidates?

My wife and I had a couple over for a New Year’s Eve dinner we’ve been friends with for years. The couple are both southerners, strong fiscal/social conservatives, and steadfastedly evangelical.

Both of them point blank said they would never vote for Newt Gingrich even though they detests Obama. She considers it a matter of principle. It is because of his three marriages (cheating on his wife). I tried making the lesser of the two evils argument and it was not pursuasive.

They are both hoping that Santorum does well and are interested in hearing more about him.

Uh, ok.

GO NEWT GO.........

Hopefully he will listen, instead of being passive, and then whining about it. NO ONE has taken the fight to Mittens yet. Newt should have taken his ass out a month ago, on abortion, on gay marriage, on O'RomneyCare, etc.

That's my guess too.

Do you know why he endorsed Arlen Spectre? He did so to make sure that conservative justices Samuel Alito and John G. Roberts would get the nomination to the Supreme Court. Arlen Specter made sure he did. The rest of your post is totally bs

What a wacky fiscal Liberal he is. As far as I can see from his stump speeches, he is calling for cutting regulations, spending and taxes. He is a fiscal Conservative.

Santorum is running as a fiscal conservative. Santorum does have a mixed voting record on fiscal issues.

Is your real name George Will? How can you say he can’t beat Romney or Obama? Are you a member of the “Know Nothing Party”?

Like I said...folks don't like ratings and polls much unless the shoe fits.

What you are saying is that Santorum is more conservative than how he performed for his liberal constituency.

That is precisely what Romney supporters say about him. “Well he was governor of Massachusetts...there was only so much he could do”

I actually like Santorum and think his time could come but likely not this go around but I'm not going to parse it out.

He has flaws like everyone of them. Supporting Spinchter was a big one.

They all make practical decisions.

and by the way...speaking of weird voting....the House Speaker often does not vote, in fact he is bound not to unless he allows the pro tempore he has to appoint for this to take his seat first which is infrequent

so by your logic a Speaker's voting record is just as compromised by procedure as a Senator's is by his more liberal than he constituents desires

it's a veritable briar patch ain't it?
