Local media has released that he died of hypothermia

He was dressed in blue jeans, and a tshirt, was found in a glacial stream and you can bet that whatever his emotional state was at the time that he will be portrayed either as a survivalist or as a victim of the neocons wars. Forgive my blunt analysis, but, I have heard it all before.

I am betting that Ranger Anderson never knew she was trying to stop an armed and dangerous suspect from a Seattle shooting. I would also suspect that Barnes thought she was trying to stop him for that crime.

It might be that the only learning point from this event is how quickly law enforcement communicates its BOLOs and how quickly the Park Service disseminates that data to its rangers.

Hypothermia is a good bet, unless he shot himself first. In waist to chest deep snow and without a huge number of food calories to keep him going, this guy was doomed. That's strenuous work. And as soon as his clothes get wet, he's a goner. Even if they are dry, it will just take a bit longer in a tshirt. Totally crazy/suicidal to try that.

He was found with one shoe.
One, not two. Shoe, not boots.

He was completely unprepared to spend any time out of his vehicle this time of year up there, I’m guessing he was at 3000 feet or so.

Every year there are reports of people who go up there - PREPARED - for a day hike and they never come back. Weather moves in, they might slip or fall, often they simply get lost in a white out and try to hunker down and don’t make it.

Once you get wet, yur toast!
