"Once they get a hold of the crazy things he's said and done like taking his two-hour old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child was real," Democratic commentator Alan Colmes said on FOX News today. "That's a cheap shot, Alan. To say it's crazy, something that's that personal and hurtful as losing a child and to mock it like that is beyond the pale and beneath you," Colmes' conservative opponent Rich Lowry said after the personal attack. I even think some of the dastardly characters we have in the main stream media are not going to go as low as you just have Alan, National Review editor Rick Lowry said later in the conversation.

I was able to hug and kiss my father a couple of days before he died and my mom within hours of her passing. If I would have been there when they passed I would have done the same. It is saying a good bye. It is not “sick and twisted” This story brought tears to my eyes. God Bless this family. It is sweet sorrow that they got to hold their little son and brother for a few hours and celebrate his short life.
Cut the crap with the “newbie” stuff. I’ve been here since 2000. Just because you’ve been here since 1998 doesn’t mean that you are a true conservative. Your attitude about this issue is anything but conservative.
I've seen pictures of dead relatives, in coffins, early 20th. century.
And because I think it's freaky sick to take home a 20-week premmie...dead...to be cuddled, caressed and whispered to...overnight mind you, I'm the one that is not a "true conservative".
If not being a necrophile is not being conservative...I guess I fit that bill.
You and Ricky so value life that you worship the dead.
When my dad died my mom wanted all sorts of pictures taken of him laying in his coffin. Some alone, some with us family in it, etc. I thought it was a bit weird - but reading some of the other posts I see that it wasn’t so unusual years ago. (And my mom is 93 now - so that is what she grew up with I guess).
When I saw my old man in the coffin - I thought it was amazing how the body DIDN’T look like my dad. Of course - it wasn’t anymore.
I have it on my bookshelf, and it has occasionally led friends to comment on my "macabre" bent. Someone actually gave it to me as a gift, for reasons unknown. This thread reminded me of the transfixing photos of babies propped up in their coffins, a practice that perhaps brought comfort to family members. Anyhow, this is one of the weirdest, most sorrowful accounts I've ever seen.
I remember my sister doing a book report on "The American Way of Death" in junior high, and one night she read this grotesquely funny passage to me. We made a pact(even shook hands)right then and there to be cremated.
The next day the older male cousins picked up his coffin from the house and went to the church; then to the graveyard, and in that town of pop.5001 people we had pret' near all of them there, and I was in awe of the lifelong friendships he'd made.
When he passed on he had two dimes, two quarters, a nickel and a penny in his pocket ~ and that's what he had. Up in his 70s he was still working for a living ~ near blind, hearing going, he just never stopped.
Colmes apologized to Santorum. Here is why:

Taking to Twitter, Murdoch Signals Support for Santorum
By BRIAN STELTER
The media mogul Rupert Murdoch signaled his support for Rick Santorum on Monday evening, calling him the only candidate with genuine big vision for the United States.
His comments were significant not only because Mr. Murdoch controls Fox News Channel and The Wall Street Journal, but also because they were made on Twitter, a Web site that allowed for his support to be forwarded far and wide on the eve of the Iowa caucuses. Mr. Santorum was a paid analyst for Fox News before he announced his bid for the presidency last year.
Mr. Murdoch seemed to stop short of an outright endorsement. Cant resist this tweet, he wrote, but all Iowans think about Rick Santorum. It was unclear if he was saying that all Iowa voters are thinking about Mr. Santorum, or should be thinking about him.
(Colmes wants to keep his FOX gig.)
So ? would you feel the same if your guy’s family did the same ? who are you supporting and voting for ? What’s your real motive behind these attacks on the Santorums ?
You and Ricky so value life that you worship the dead.
What a smarmy prig you are! Now you're saying that the Santorums had an erotic attraction to their dead child. You ARE the sick one!
I MIGHT write her in as protest.
That said, I COULD vote for Gingrich in the general...MAYBE Perry, but I doubt it.
I think Bachmann, Santorum, Paul and Huntsman are just plain crazy.
I think Romney is the absolute end of the GOP and I'd vote for the godless commie Obama if it's down to those two.
It'd be time to get things over with.
Thanks to both of you. Touching stories. We all grieve in our own ways...ugh, my screen is getting blurry.
No, I'm not.
A necrophile does not imply an erotic attraction...just an un-natural obsession.
My wife and I lost twins at 19 weeks. One thing that I’ll never forget is the respect and reverence that nurses gave to our boys. Thank you from me for all the parents that you helped in the past through such a terrible event.

I’m so angry about this it is tough to convey. I never thought Alan was very bright, but I have to admit he seemed to have some decency. I don’t know what this guy was thinking, and I’m not inclined to figure it out. That crazy smiley face while taking the lowest shot I’ve ever seen on the news sticks with me too. I’d recommend a nice, warm FREEP of the mail boxes at Fox letting them all know how we feel and linking to his video;
