New Law Forces Older Kids Into Child Seats
SAN DIEGO - A new California law that went into effect Sunday increased the age of child required to use a car seat.
The new state law indicates any child under eight years old must be in a car seat, and if the child is over eight years old and too small for an adult side seat, they also must be in that seat.
It's a change from the previous law for children under six and for those weighing less than 60 pounds.
The state insists keeping older kids in booster seats will increase their chance of surviving a crash by 45 percent. More than a million children will be impacted by the new law.
The purpose behind the law is keeping kids safe on the road.
"I'm totally for it," said Tyrica Reeves. She said if the state wants to increase the age even higher, that's okay with her.
Drivers caught violating the new law will face fines between $475 and $1000.

LOL. Yeah, if they can escape its time for the crib to go bye-bye.
When I was about 3, we lived in a country club in Palm Springs and the house had a walk in silver closet which was my play room. My mother thought she was being a good mom and had the plastic safety plugs in the outlets. She comes in one day and finds me up on the top shelf unscrewing the outlet with a dime (safety plugs were not a problem).
Then there was the time I decided to make my own tightrope....
Seriously, I am surprised I survived childhood and that my mother didn’t strangle me.
I truly understand your chagrin over this whole mess. To have to uproot yourself...that stinks.
My problem with my brother’s plan is that he think it’s gonna be better in New York State!
an adult side seat = passenger seat
OMG, I could never do a cold state...have to stay in the Sun Belt. I'm from Detroit originally, and the day my Dad dug what he thought was his car out after a blizzard - and found out it WASN'T his car - was the day we quit Michigan.
Actually, we thought we had been brought to Paradise when we got to L.A. in 1962. You could smell the oranges in the air and every street was lined with King Palms. Gosh, it was spectacularly beautiful. Sniff..
My, you were a precocious little thing, weren’t you? :-)
My folks have a winter camp just east of Phoenix. Queen Valley. Kinda/sorta a retirement community. Out of sight of the big town.
But will will midgets with driver’s licenses have to use a booster seat while operating their car or other vehicle?
I wasn’t suggesting a cold state and LOL at your dad and the car.
I’ll look it up on the internet. Thanks.
Will this law apply to illegal aliens or will they be exempted?
I know you weren’t. You’re heartier than me...I’m spoiled!
“Drivers caught violating the new law will face fines between $475 and $1000.”
They don’t care about the kids, they care about collecting the fines.
My, you were a precocious little thing, werent you? :-)

That, my dear, is an understatement. Just ask my husband. I used to keep him awake during naptime in preschool.
LOL, I meant “hardier.” Now I feel dumb!
I’ve been out near there, nice area. My godmother lives in Tempe and loves it.
I would think that CA would introce dua law mandating breast feeding up to a certain age too. However, it would probably be considered discriminatory to gays and thus wouldn’t pass.
Oh exempted of course. And if not, the taxpayers will have to cough up the booster seats.

If they do then they will file a lawsuit based on the ADA.
heartier works too. LOL.
You realize that all the non-Californians think we are kidding, right?
