New Law Forces Older Kids Into Child Seats
SAN DIEGO - A new California law that went into effect Sunday increased the age of child required to use a car seat.
The new state law indicates any child under eight years old must be in a car seat, and if the child is over eight years old and too small for an adult side seat, they also must be in that seat.
It's a change from the previous law for children under six and for those weighing less than 60 pounds.
The state insists keeping older kids in booster seats will increase their chance of surviving a crash by 45 percent. More than a million children will be impacted by the new law.
The purpose behind the law is keeping kids safe on the road.
"I'm totally for it," said Tyrica Reeves. She said if the state wants to increase the age even higher, that's okay with her.
Drivers caught violating the new law will face fines between $475 and $1000.

If Kalifornia was a human it would be locked up in a mental ward for the incurebly insane!
I’ll bet more children age 6-8 are killed by illegals in California than by not being in a booster seat.
Notice the fines for this are out of this world high. This is all about revenue collection pure and simple. We are rapidly evolving into a police state where everything you do has the potential to generate a fine and thus revenue for the state. It’s all for the children ... or more likely the public employee unions and their fat salaries and pensions!
Well if mrs Obama would allow kids to eat something other than arugula, they might not have n Korean statures. Seriously though, my petite baby girl would have been in a seat til she was nine. Sounds like a broke state needing to generate revenue so bad they will make up any excuse to ticket you or make you buy taxable items.
We didn’t need car seats when I was little. The way mom drove, we were already holding on for dear life...
And who will be the most affected? “The poor and the children”. It is all about revenue.
I still haven’t figured out why school buses do not require seatbelts and, now, booster seats. But, individual vehicles do.
Sure. Make ‘em wear a helmet too.
The minimum height is 4’9”. A few more years of shrinking and I will need a booster seat (I’m 4’11”)
The state has no power over an innocent man.
lol...more idiocy from the “we know what’s best for you” lunkheads.
My son is Laotian - he’s almost 6, weighs 35lbs soaking wet and is only a little over 3 feet tall. At this rate, he’d be in a booster seat until he’s 18...lol.
Another attempt to make children into infants.....they want to destroy the “risk” of all childhood-—to destroy the Patriarchy and men’s natural instinct which has led to a free, inventive, creative, flourishing Western Civ.
All Marxists programs are designed to not only destroy morality (all school textbooks) but to destroy independence.
Prussian school system forced onto us by Dewey and Fabian Socialists was for mass dependence (raise hand for everything)—total control of mass of kids by one “teacher”.....use of humiliation if you think “outside of the box” or take “risks”——discourages all entrepreneurship-—and prevents perseverance with constant bells and interruptions.
Key for success: Perseverance. All successful CEO’s, leaders state this. That is what is being destroyed by Sesame St.-—that need of constant interruptions and flash and noise to keep attention. Creates and conditions children into short attention spans. Schools do that too with mass interruption and time limits, etc.
We need to destroy DOE—return schools to local—parental control—like in the time of one school classrooms—or homeschool with groups of parents and churches. (John Taylor Gatto, BK Eakman)
Prussian system is to form mass conformity of one way to “think” (slaves of state)—and of course, it is the atheist/marx/hedonist/dysfunctional model-—to provide useful idiots.
Laws like this make Arizona seem very desirable. Need to wait until oldest grandson finishes high school, then I just might take the 3 grandbabies there and start over. I never thought I would say that, but sheesh this state is out of control...
Less than half our cars had seat belts.
It’s damn unfortunate about California. I happen to think it’s one of the most beautiful of our states and I always wanted to relocate there. Never gonna happen now!
Happy New Year, Truthie.
Moved to Tempe Arizona from Northern Calif two years ago. Best decision I have made since marrying Mrs Clamper
The law would be unenforceable. The bus driver would have to stop the bus and continuously walk back and forth between seats checking the seat belts. Even then some children would unbuckle as soon as the driver is not looking. He can't punish them for that, can he?
If then the bus is in an accident and some children are not secured in their seats, who is going to be responsible? The driver? But he can't see his passengers. Children? They can't be held responsible for their actions. Thus the law would be an empty word, free to violate with no repercussions.
One can argue that the driver of a car also can't be constantly aware of the state of seat belt latches at all times. However we don't let strangers ride in our cars; any miscommunication or intentional violation will be then between the driver and the passenger - and, unlike in the bus, next time that passenger will not be allowed into the vehicle.
