The country did not want a third Bush term. Bush and the Reps had become very unpopular with approval ratings in the mid 30s. The 2006 mid-terms, which saw the Reps lose control of Congress, were a harbinger of things to come. The Dems were energized and motivated. The country was heading into recession and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were becoming more unpopular. Unemployment was increasing and a recession was in process.
To say that any Rep threw the election of 2008 is pure nonsense. It was lost the day McCain was nominated. The McCain defeat would have been far worse without Palin. If Romney and his supporters were trashing Palin, they were not very effective. She emerged as a much more powerful and influentional political force as a result of the 2008 campaign.
McCain put the final nail in his campaign coffin when he suspended his campaign to come back to Congress to support TARP. When the Stupid Party nominates a maverick as its standard bearer, the result is preordained.
Excellent analysis,its what happened.
100% accurate.
I also believe the last 3 years have really hurt the democrats, so we can be back in the White House next year, if the “stupid Party” does not live up to it’s nickname.
For the sake of the SCOTUS, we need to get Obama out!!!
Think about what he can do on the Court alone to further erode our Republic, even long after he is gone!
