Chicago - An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle that died when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. PETA's request to the Illinois Department of Transportation says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 head of cattle killed as a result of negligent driving in Illinois this year.
Ashley Byrne of PETA says the effort is part of a national campaign to call attention to how cattle suffer in the meat industry.
IDOT spokesman Josh Kauffman says the request likely will be denied. Rules require that only relatives who lost loved ones in highway crashes may request roadside memorials.
PETA...Insanity
Once upon a time in America, there where institutions, just for these kind of people.
Billboards with giant hamburghers and all the trimmings.
Bon appetit!
“.. I understand a lot of domesticated animals suffer needlessly at the hands of the meat industry.”
What does the meat industry do? Play Lady GaGa music loud? Do they shoot bullets at the feet of the animals and order them to dance?
Or have you just been reading some PETA crap?
Making animals suffer would create extra work for the meat industry - they aren’t going to do anything that adds to costs - theirs or yours. Buy a clue.
I’m sure if a cow were choosing a religion it would be Hindu!!
What about the possums and squirrels?

Yes, I have often thought that if putting up a roadside marker was such a ‘good idea’, why not put a ‘memorial plaque’ in a Hospital Room where one passed?
AND before the flaming starts, I know about Private Property etc and the Roadside Memorials are also meant to alert etc, it is just my way of saying “I don’t think the Roadside is such a good idea for memorial either”.
Like the historical marker signs are very good, but only if one stops to read them, NOT slow down to a crawl while still on the highway.
Probably employed at the Dept. of Agriculture or the Dept. of Education between Obama campaigns.
I thought maybe politics would stay out of this thread, but noooo.
Or maybe a top official at the CIA
