Mitt Romney’s Son Matt Makes Major Gaffe on Campaign Trail
New York Daily News ^ | December 30, 2011 | Nina Mandell

Matt Romney may not want to count on inheriting his dad's millions.

Mitt Romney's son stole a bit of the news cycle on Friday after he joked to a group of seniors in New Hampshire that his dad would release his tax records when President Obama released his birth certificate.

"He has not said that he will not do it, he has also not said that he will. I think it's a matter of time until that issue comes up because I think everybody has to get a chance to do that. And so I don't know the answer to that, I'm not sure if he knows the answer to that. But he'll do everything that he needs to," Matt Romney said, according to Patch.com.

"He's certainly not afraid of anything, not hiding anything — you know, I heard someone suggest the other day that as soon as Obama releases his grades and birth certificate and sort of a long list of things, then maybe he'd do it. That was just a —"

Then, Matt's brother Tagg quickly cut in to say, "That was not my dad saying that."

Matt quickly backtracked saying, "No, no no, that was just a suggestion."

The slip is an especially embarrassing one for the Romney campaign, which has tried to stay above the conspiracy theories in the party that the President was not born in the United States.

The President released a copy of his full-form birth certificate this year after needling about the issue from Donald Trump and other outspoken conservatives.

Romney, as have most mainstream Republicans, has never questioned if the President was born in the United States.

Last week he said he wasn’t sure he was going to release his tax forms.

I agree with regard to Romney. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to take a pass on kicking the media in the groin every time an issue like this comes up, when they’ve failed to demand Obama documents be made public for four years.

Off topic ... but I’m curious about your screen name. Does it refer to the four-wheeled version, or its three-wheeled inspiration? (The car’s designers weren’t looking at a horse when they designed one of the most beautiful vehicles ever to grace America’s roads!)

I grew up in Southern California. People who worked in Hollywood many times told me a variation of this saying “If it appears on TV or film, it wasn’t accidental.”

So, Matt Romney is saying his dad has things to hide, just like Obama, & that Romney will not do right by the American people until Obama does. Kinda like a thief who refuses to stop stealing until the other thieves do, first. Very impressive. NOT!!!!!

Two peas in a pod, IMO. Both will say anything to get elected, both are smooth liars, so I expect Romney to govern just like Obama.

I have a bad cold, but that is not why I want to puke.

If the Dems keep pushing the refuse-to-disclose meme, remember that we still dont know the One’s college grades, college thesis, lecture notes as law prof, writings as law-review editor, health records, etc.

By all means let’s have full disclosure if that’s what the Dems really want.

I wonder if Mittney has a charitable contributions problem like Biden, despite having much more wealth.

I despise Mitt, but why should he release his tax records? We know he makes a lot of money so the only thing he will get out of releasing them is a months worth of media driven class warfare. I have no intention of supporting the guy, but I am with him on this one.

I really don't know how or why the practice of Presidential candidates releasing tax returns began. I suppose one candidate wanted to show he was just one of the folks, which sure isn't true any more if it ever was.

It's strange that the IRS has elaborate rules to protect taxpayer privacy, but the public seems to expect candidates to release them.

I'm with you. I'd like to see candidates start saying none of your business.

But I would really like to see Barry's college transcripts. :-))

NOT A GAFFE! Repeat NOT A GAFFE!

NO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE SHOULD RELEASE A SINGLE ITEM UNTIL OBAMA RELEASES HIS RECORDS! When the media screams their little liberal heads off just remind them of their refusal to vet Barry.

Romney’s tax records are securely locked in a vault, at an undisclosed location, someplace in Hawaii.....

No. This is as engineered as the ‘run in’ with the professional ‘heckler’ early in the year. Pure choreography.

It would have been better left unsaid,

Why? The Obamanites brought up the tax release issue. If Mitt had any balls he would be shoving the release of the birth and school records up Obama's a$$ daily.

But Mitt is too polite. Should he get nominated look for him to pull a McLaim and get his ass kicked. Sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade ... no pun intended.
