Romney Takes Biggest Lead Yet Against Obama in National POll
New York Post ^ | December 29, 2011 | SA Miller

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:03:24 PM PST by lbryce

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has rocketed ahead of President Obama and taken his biggest lead yet in a national head-to-head matchup, a new poll showed today.

Romney topped Obama 45 percent to 39 percent in the Rasmussen Reports survey.

“It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date,” said the pollsters.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney greets supporters at J's Homestyle Cooking in Cedar Falls, Iowa Thursday.

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44 percent to 41 percent and the week before that held a thin 43 percent to 42 percent edge over the president in Rasmussen polls.

Obama’s 39 percent share of the vote in today’s poll also represents a new low for the president, whose support previously ranged from 40 percent to 46 percent in matchups with Romney.

Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Cain dropped out of the GOP contest after a series of allegations that he sexually harassed women when he ran the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s and was alleged to have had a longtime extramarital affair.

It’s amazing the lengths that the media will go to ensure that Zero gets to run against Mittens.

The day the tea party embraces Mitt Romney is the day the tea party accepts defeat

The Whigs screwed the pooch and a new party was born.

If Romney is the pick are you going to war against the GOP?

Conservatives are great at eating their own.

Yep. Hence my question: "whose fault is that?" And the assertion that "conservatives have been played." Your point is that they were easy to play. I agree.

We have a small window to unite. I am not confident.

no dems said (and I agree):

"HOLD IT! HOLD IT! HOLD IT! Let’s be honest. Conservatives are great at eating their own. It’s not just the GOP Elitists or the media who are destroying the Conservatives. Just check out the mean-spirited venom that is spewed here on FRee Republic, for example. We, in trying to “Out Conservative” each other, kill off each other and the RINO gets the nomination because he’s the only one left standing. Republicans are the only soldiers who shoot their own wounded."

Jim: Three SCOTUS judges are at stake in the next presidential term. We must vote for the nominee - even if it's Mitt - to stop this piece of crap in the White House from destroying this country any further. Please reconsider your stance on this matter.

How many conservatives did Romney nominate in MA? None. His biggest supporter Sununu gave out Souter. Romney is Obama in GOP clothing.

I will not vote for that POS. Scare tactics and end of the world rhetoric be damned.

We social conservatives stand on a big principle... that's why we should support Santorum, but if we "have to" we must support Newt as the last resort... but pro-homo, sleazy, second car salesman, weasel Romney: NEVER, EVER... it's impossible.

Horse hockey!! I don’t want that liberal progressive abortionist, gay rights, gun grabbing, mandate loving, warmingist, statist/socialist, liberal judge appointing Mitt Romney anywhere close to appointing judges!! Take your love for progressive RINOs elsewhere!! It’s not welcome on this conservative site!! Promote Romney here, you get the boot!!

Promoting romney is not the same thing as voting against obama.

Fair warning: Push that rat bastard Romney on this site, you get the boot!! And I see you have both Romney and Paul on your short list. Guess you’re a two-time loser who no longer wishes to be a freeper. You can push your desires Romney or Paul ELSEWHERE!!

I don’t know what short list you’re referring to or why you would call me a two time loser. The general plan of action most conservatives prescribe to is to vote your heart in the primary and vote against obama in the general.

I’m not Jim and I don’t claim to speak for him and his website.....but I view FR as a conservative website..not a GOP website. Sometimes the two line up...but since Romney is socialist just like Obama...I don’t think that’s going to work out.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

That's a keeper. I will save it and use it.
