Keith Olbermann, who came to Current TV this year to remake the channel and compete against his old home, MSNBC, is sitting out the biggest political nights of the season.
Despite being the biggest star on the fledging channel, Mr. Olbermann is not scheduled to anchor Currents coverage of the Iowa caucus or the New Hampshire primary in January. Instead, Currents other prime time anchors, Cenk Uygur and Jennifer Granholm, will be joined by the channels chairman, the former vice president Al Gore.
Mr. Olbermann also was noticeably absent from two special reports that Current produced after Republican debates in mid-December. Those, too, were anchored by Mr. Uygur.
These absences suggest that there may be new tension between Mr. Olbermann and the managers at Current, who are trying to create a progressive-oriented cable news channel.

No Keef! What will the DUmmies do?
I’m sure Keith and all 6 of his regular viewers are devastated.
I knew if we ignored him long enough he’d just go away.
I wonder if it works with professional scoffers (billed as “comedians” despite not being funny) like Bill Maher and Kathy Griffin? I certainly hope so.
How long does Current have to be on air before it’s no longer called “ fledgling “ ?
Maybe when they pass the milestone of 100 viewers per night for 30 nights in a row.
Dang, I was so looking forward to that. ;’) Must be they’re using journalists this time. Thanks grellis.

Definition of FLEDGE
intransitive verb
of a young bird
: to acquire the feathers necessary for flight or independent activity; also: to leave the nest after acquiring such feathers
transitive verb
1: to rear until ready for flight or independent activity
2: to cover with or as if with feathers or down
3: to furnish (as an arrow) with feathers
I was thinking maybe they have “fledge drives”. Then, again, I suspect, it was merely a typo for “fledging”
If you haven’t grown metaphorical feathers after six years, you’re not a fledgling, you’re a failure.

“Current TV, which has been around more than six years, is more a flailing channel....”
Yeah, but it’s less than one dog year.
Could be good DUFU material here. Unfortunately the computer I´m posting from in Venezuela is too slow to do DUFUs without incredible frustration. And the journal posts I´ve been making I first post to my goole docs and then copy and paste here. Otherwise impossible to do.
Current TV went on the air in 2005- right around the time of the demise of Err America radio...
