15-Year-Old Behind Blaze Story on Girl Scouts Speaks Out: ‘We Were So Deceived’

On Tuesday, we broke the story of the Girl Scouts using one of its books to direct young girls to the liberal site Media Matters to combat media misinformation. The story took off, with everyone from Fox News to the Drudge Report covering it. The girl at the center of the story was 15-year-old Sydney Volanski, who first noticed the Media Matters reference last year and left the organization over it. Now, Sydney is speaking out.

Sydney joined the crew of “Fox & Friends” on Thursday morning to explain what she found and also to talk about her website, “Speak Now: Girl Scouts Website,” which she co-edits and that was set up to expose other liberal bias within the Scouts.

“My sister and I started a website to help inform families of the more leftward leanings of Girl Scouts because they promise to be neutral politically and about certain social issues,” she explained, “but when you examine the women that they promote and the websites and books that they refer girls to, there is a clear liberal ideology, like with the Media Matters site.”

“With Speak Now: Girl Scouts we’re just trying to spread awareness to families because we were so deceived,” she added. “For eight years we were in Girl Scouts and we didn’t realize that Girl Scouts was promoting such a liberal ideology.”

Will’s Law states that any organization not expressly set up to be right wing becomes left wing over time; it is the nature of organizations to foster groupthink which inevitable subsumes the individual to the greater good of the organization. It just didn’t take the GS all that long to become left wing.

We have already decided to boycott Girl Scouts because of their liberal views and plan on sending our daughter to the Christian conservative alternative called American Heritage Girls when she is old enough.

IQ != Wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience, either direct or if you are very lucky vicarious. It is the old school of hard knocks. People with no experience in the real world only have their emotions to base decisions on. Emotion tells you how the world should be, experience tells you how the world is.

For example I was the little kid with glasses in a public school. I learned quickly that authority figures (teachers etc..) would not always be there to defend me. Even if they punished the kid who beat me up, i still got beat up. By the age of six I had learned by hard experience that in the real world my safety was my business, not the schools, not my parents and not the governments. They might be able to help, but first and foremost I was responsible for my own safety.

Now some pampered kid who was the teachers pet never learned this lesson. He still things the government will keep him safe. He doesn't see the need for home defense. He still believes that if you are just nice to everyone, everyone will be nice to you.

All I can say is: Wow.

What an intelligent young lady. I can only hope there are more like her. It has been years since I have seen a teenager who looked like they had a future. If you can watch the interview, do it. She literally took our breath away- we thought she was in college, not a 15 year old. We especially liked how she called out the GS for endorsing Planned Parenthood.

And why is it called Planned Parenthood? Don’t they get most of their funding for Unplanned Parenthood?

Actually, most Hi-IQ people who I have met are fairly conservative, at least libertarian. Its just that, as in regular life, the most strident ones happen to be the liberals. In particular, the local one whe edited our newsletter was such a sickening lefty. Couldn't stand her, so I let my membership lapse. No big deal, really wasn't into it. I joined it as a bet actually. Sister had gone out with a guy who she was so impressed with because he was a Mensan, I scoffed, she said "you couldn't be a member" so I proved her wrong..

You’re right; that is why they don’t mirror the policy of the Boy Scouts in terms of homosexual troop leaders & such. The silence of the Girl Scouts was deafening.
