Streep was one of the Hollywood airheads who testified before Congress about farming because she had played a farmer's wife once, wasn't she?
Our executive editor, Andy Howell, told me that Comedy Central satirist Stephen Colbert plans to testify Friday at a U.S. House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration. Colbert, it seems, spent one day picking crops as part of a United Farm Workers publicity effort daring Americans citizens to work in the fields. Theres never a shortage of celebrities hiking to Capitol Hill. Alan Alda, who played a doctor on MASH, played doctor again in a congressional hearing. Meryl Streep, wanting to be relevant, testified in Congress against a pesticide, alar, used on apples. Alar was eventually banned, despite that humans would have to drink 4,000 gallons of apple juice connected to alar every day for a lifetime to have any risk of cancer.
But it's probably safe to assume Meryl Streep is an airhead.
