As Ive already described in this paper earlier in the year, Billy had escaped from the garden of our home and run across a dual carriageway, where he hit a car with such force that the drivers registration plate snapped in half.
Having suffered two leg fractures, a broken tail, a nasty gash on his forehead and, most worryingly, a near-collapsed lung, no one knew if he would make it. ...
In what I can only describe as a Christmas miracle, Billy survived the night and the night after that. We brought him home in a very sorry state on Boxing Day and he remained on full bed rest for six weeks while his fractures healed. ...
Billy, my two-year-old Tibetan Terrier, is on his first official day of duty at St Cuthberts Hospice in Durham as a Pets As Therapy dog. ...
He is one of more than 5,000 dogs, and a select few cats, working throughout the UK, ... providing love and comfort to more than 150,000 desperately ill people, many of whom are missing dearly loved pets back home. ...
According to Pets As Therapy founder and chief executive Maureen Hennis, these visits provide more than a bit of light relief and can actually help improve the health of patients.
The act of stroking a dog reduces both blood pressure and stress levels and brings a little bit of comfort and normality to a life which might be spent mainly in a hospital or hospice, she explains. ...

Doggie Therapist Ping
He’s a beautiful dog. I just love his little face!
Awwwwwww..he’s adorable!
Who knew that there was more than one “Joe 6-pack”? :)

Sorry for my previous ping, JoeSixPack.
We are legion.
:)
Cute!
My son volunteered last year at a nursing home. The home had very social and calm dogs living there (plus some cats as well). The residents love them. The dogs seem to “know” when one resident needs some attention and love. They will just sit by their wheelchair or rest their chin on top of their foot. Animals do have a healing and calming way about them. IMHO.
Now I am totally confused. Is Joe6pack and joesixpack the same joe?
Good question. Can there be only one? :)
There was a study done by a cardiac care unit a while back. Discharged patients were given pages and pages of questions about their lifestyles. The goal was to identify factors that resulted in fewer and milder subsequent heart attacks.
The big surprise was that regardless of any other factors owning a pet was associated with a more positive outcome. No one could believe this so the study was repeated (more than once IIRC) and the association held.
Congratulations for raising such a good son!
Okay, Joe. We are confused (or at least I am). Are there two separate Joe’s? Inquiring minds would love to know!!
There are a number of us using different variations of the name...
Good to know. Thanks, Joe!
Do you all have meetings? :)
We are autocephalous, much like the Eastern Orthodox Church :-)
I’m thinking they must all be nice guys. If not, can you imagine the emails? “How dare you say that I am..... “ or “You don’t have to be such a jerk!”. LOL!
