Kids should be trained from as young as possible in how to handle a gun.
But don’t a five year old a glock to try out as one idiot father did.
I recommend airsoft guns as the best contemporary training devices available.
I’m training my young child the safety rules using a cheap springer that looks identical to the “real thing”.
We have added a rule to the “big 4” -
1a) Every gun is real. (until proven otherwise)
Thank goodness this teen girl had some training. Who knows what would have happened to her if these two men found her... I shudder to think.
Within minutes police were on their way and a nearby family member ran to the house to help.
"He walked up to the backdoor on the deck and he had a glock and he was standing at the door and he yelled I'm gonna shoot ya I got a gun, " Dennison said.
Teach your kids to call 911 and then call a trusted, armed neighbor for backup.
We live in the country, not a lot of crime out here, bad guys assume you are armed, and every one is, it is deer season.
Why the heck would a 16 yo be ASLEEP in the middle of the day?
“Why the heck would a 16 yo be asleep in the middle of the day?”
You obviously don’t have teenagers. They do seem to need a good amount of sleep. My teen balked about naps when he was little... he now takes them when he can (minus the stuffed bear, of course)
Parent will either control the kid or the kid will control the parent, the choice belongs to the parent. There is no middle ground.
Yes raised teens and neither were permitted to sleep in my house in mid day, but then again I was not trying to be “friends” with children I was charged with turning into stable productive adults.
Have a nice day.
Funniest post of the day!
My kids worked hard and had jobs (McDonalds hired 15 year olds) so they took an occasional nap later in the day.
Myself? I awake around 4-5am most days so by 11am, I can sometimes be found napping in front of the tv in my favorite chair (if, as now, it's a day off from work)
Oh please, get over yourself.
You know what the noob is going to say. He’ll say if you were a good parent raising “productive adults” you should have forced them to stay awake. You see, he’s the only good parent on Free Republic. No one else is raising productive adults. As for me, my teen busts his hump all day. He is up before the sun, takes all advanced and A.P. classes, and stays up late to keep his grades high. He helps me around the house, too. So, if he wants to get some more Z’s in if he is tired, a good parent understands that. One that raised their kids with iron fists don’t.
I totally agree with you! You don’t have to be considered a weak parent to treat your kids with some respect.
“You don’t have to be considered a weak parent to treat your kids with some respect”.
Isn’t that how children LEARN respect for others? If they are shown respect then they are much more likely to show others respect. If they are shown anger and iron fists.... well, you reap what you sow.
If you ask any pediatrician about teens needing sleep, they will tell you that most teens today aren’t getting enough rest. In fact, our pediatrician actually recommended naps if they need it. I can understand why, too. My son grew five inches in a few months. So, yes... his body actually needed a few naps.
That's a lot of growing in such a short period of time. My 2 nephews are both 6ft plus. I remember my sister telling me about them waking in the middle of the night crying in pain.
She took the oldest to the doctors because she thought something was terribly wrong. It was literal "growing pains".
She didn't have to rush the 2nd one to the doctors because she already knew.
They used to LOVE measuring themselves against me. I'm 5'3. I think they had me beat by the time they were 12, lol.
Hey noob. It’s apparent you don’t know or are familiar w/ momtothree.
Before you get on your high horse and start lecturing a fellow FReeper, take a look at their history.
