>> OK, so that makes our pickup of the Nebraska Senate seat official. Whoever wins the GOP nomination will win the Nebraska seat and form part of the emerging GOP Senate majority. There’s no need to “settle” here. <<

You're probably right, but remember, that's what we thought about this very same seat when Senator Bob Kerrey retired. The GOP assumed they'd win it by default but then they were blindsided when the RATs ran former Nebraska Gov. Ben Nelson and outspent them considerably. RATs do a lot better than the GOP when it comes to scoring upset Senate victories in states heavily favored for the other party.

So, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I agree Nebraska is solidly conservative and we shouldn't have to settle on a squishy Republican, but the pro-RINO crowd on FR will always claim so-and-so RINO is "the best we can get" and "the ONLY electable candidate", no matter what the state's ideological leanings are. Those useful idiot pro-RINO "conservatives" even saddled us with Lisa Murkowski in Alaska.

When Kerrey retired in 2000, the Dems had a recent governor ready to run (Ben Nelson, who was term-limited in 1998); they have no such candidate this time around. The only Dem governors of NE during the past 40 years have been soon-to-be-ex-Senator Nelson, ex-Senator Kerrey, and late ex-Senator Exon.
