CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say nine people were shot when a fight broke out at a Chattanooga nightclub, where some 400 teens and adults were attending a Christmas party. Police say all those shot are expected to survive.

Chattanooga police said in a press release Sunday morning that an off-duty officer who had been working at Club Fathom fired shots at a suspect who pointed a gun at him, but the gunman got away. The officer was not wounded.

Do not let this shake your faith in the African American community.

I won't allow myself to my faith to be shaken in African-American individuals, as I don't believe there is a monolithic "community" for any American ethnic group. I will also not allow myself to debase my soul into racism, because racism is evil. However, I will also adopt Biblical discernment regarding good, evil, wickedness, sin, vile behavior, and obedience to God.

The African-Americans (many of them despise that moniker and insist on being called "black") that I work with in an inner city drug/alcohol shelter are Christians who are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. They are my brothers and sisters in the truest sense of the word. God's love knows no bounds.

Many years ago, I heard the great Christian apologist Dr. Ravi Zacharias speak to a live audience at a major American university. One of the first questions he took from one of the students was: "Isn't today's condemnation of gay people by Christians akin to the yesterday's racism against blacks?"

Dr. Zacharias handled the question (as he always does) with graciousness towards the questioner, superb kindness, but also shining truth. He said that his race (Indian) and the questioner's race (White-European) were sacred to God, because God made them both.

Homosexuality, he said, was a behavior, and terrible sin. He made the distinction quite clear, and even further, discussed that sexuality was sacred to God, and for that very reason He surrounded it with firm parameters to keep it sacred.

When the Christian church backed the freeing of the slaves prior to the Civil War, to the civil rights movement of the 1960's, it was doing so in accordance with Biblical precepts.

Today, the "black leaders" of the black "community" are shameful, God-hating, liars, and enslavers themselves.

Decades of sexual immorality, sloth, and rebellion against God's word is not a forumla for success of any race, people, or individuals. That toxic concoction is exactly what has infected many Americans, not just blacks.

Several years ago, a very good friend of mine (who is black) and I got into a heated discussion about the rap, gang, hip-hop "culture" that has infested the African-American pop scene. He tried to argue (as did Jessie Jackson) that gansta rap and hip-hop were the next "jazz or blues" and had redeeming qualities. I picked up the cover of a 2 Live Cruew "Nasty as They Wanna Be" CD that he had in his collection, showed it to him, and stated that this is NOT what God has intended to be good. Vileness, pride, gutter language, violence, debasement, immorality - it is a stew of horror.

Yet, to condemn it today can get you branded as a "racist."

It is just another one of Satan's tricks against mankind. The great NFL athlete and Christian Reggie White learned before he died that he himself could be labeled a "racist" by the very "community" he was trying to help find the Savior.
