Whoever carved the statue would not have had TV's favourite cartoon anti-hero in mind - but there is no doubting the resemblance of this stone head to Homer Simpson
It was found by Rosalind and Donald McIntyre when they were clearing the bottom of their garden at their home in Fife, Scotland, earlier this year.
The couple were working in their garden when Mrs McIntyre picked up the head.
She took it to St Andrews Museum, and the discovery has been referred to the National Committee for Carved Stones of Scotland.

Thanks Salamander and stockpirate. The only way to get a carbon date from this would have been the organic materials caked on the outside, but it appears that they cleaned the whole thing off first. The guess in the article -- gargoyle from a demolished medieval church -- sounds like the source of the date given the artifact. To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. |

I’ve got a funny Homer look-a-like pic, but would get banned if I posted it. The original poster on the board where I stole it was, LOL!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Homer loves donuts.
In fact, that is the most advanced case of Donut Eye I've ever seen.
I’m putting this one down as a hoax. The style looks a bit too modern, IMHO.
