“I’m beginning to think a brokered GOP convention will lead to the best outcome.”

I’ve been wondering about this, but must admit that I’m not sure how a brokered convention works.

We can’t be railroaded into a choice between Romney and Paul. It’s unthinkable. Something is wrong here. I’ve always heard/read that Mormons are “decent people”, if nothing else. If Romney is finagling things here, they’ve lost the “decent people” tag, too.

I would bet that the GOP Establishment is even more able to control the outcome of a brokered convention.

Dig up the book “A Choice Not an Echo” for the inside scoop on inside tricks of GOP prior to 1964. Written by Phyllis Schlafly.

It’s my understanding that if no candidate has enough votes on the first round at the convention, the delegates from all the states etc at the convention no longer have to vote the way their electors did in the primaries and caucuses. They will have been released from their commitment. So if no single candidate comes to the convention with a majority of delegates, after the initial vote it can open up to a free vote or succession of votes to hash out who the nominee will be. At that point, I believe anyone who was on any state primary ballot and got enough votes for at least one delegate is in the running, along with all others who have at least one delegate, but I’m not sure if this is a requirement. Maybe someone totally new could be introduced. It depends on the rules the GOP decides for the convention.
