RICHMOND, Va. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry have failed to qualify for Virginia's March 6 Republican primary, but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul will be on the ballot.
The Republican Party of Virginia announced late Friday and early Saturday that Gingrich and Perry fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters required for a candidate's name to be on the primary ballot. Romney and Paul met that threshold.
State GOP spokesman Garren Shipley said volunteers spent Friday validating petitions that the four candidates submitted by the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline to the State Board of Elections.
..."We will closely review the facts and law to determine whether an appeal or challenge is warranted," the statement added. "Governor Perry has the utmost respect for the strong place Virginia holds in our nation's economic and military strength and in American history. He will continue to work hard to build strong support in Virginia and earn the trust of conservative-minded voters there."....

THE FIX IS IN! And I will stay home on election day. I have lots of options to protect my interests if Obama wins another term. And it is looking that way for sure now. There is no way Romney (Or Paul) can win.
Our only hope is that Virginia will become irrelevant and be the big loser and our candidate can win in spite of it. I know they are trying to explain this to the millions of disenfranchised voters now, who must be furious!
Are you really that big of an idiot? What the hell do you call Romney? And if you think that RUN Paul is even partly sane, you need to have your head examined.
You are mostly part of the problem, not the answer to it, like you so arrogantly think.
“...their petitions failed to meet VA Republican Party’s approval.”
That is a mis-atatement. The word ‘approval’ should be replaced with the word ‘requirements.’ Too many signers of Perry’s and Newt’s petitions failed either to be registered voters in VA, or to include their residences with their signatures. They didn’t meet RPV’s requirements.
All the signatures were cross-referenced against the VA voting rolls. Very cut and dry, having nothing to do with the party, its leadership’s ‘approval’ or preference.
It’s reading on these threads that the RPV should have turned a blind eye to its own requirements, as Larry Sabato said disparagingly they would do. I’m sorry these two candidates didn’t make the ballot, but am glad the RPV followed its own re-established rules. Much of the complaining sounds like those who following the ‘00 election suddenly didn’t like the electoral college and wanted the election settled by the popular vote. The campaigns knew the rules and requirements going in.
No, Psycho-Freep! Do not stay home if you are in VA.
The VA primary is WINNER-TAKE-ALL. If they do not allow write-ins, vote for Ron Paul to deny Mitt ALL of the delegates in Virginia.
And they are reporting this as neither Newt or Perry had enough signatures to qualify. When both of them submitted over 11,000 to meet the 10,000 signatures required. They pulled another “Florida Recount” trick and disqualified 2,000 signatures because they were not perfectly filled out. (And the requirements they established are RIDICULOUS.)
I hope they embarrass Virginia before the entire country around the clock. There needs to be an investigation and a recount and both Newt and Perry need to get together and make this deal as big in the MSM as the Florida Recounts. They also need to pin this on the Establishment Republicans and prove that Holder was right. The Republican establishment is indeed, trying to suppress the vote.
Shouldn’t Newt get loud about this? It is his home state.
It doesn’t matter who votes. It only matters who counts the ballots
And in this case the RNC insiders are counting the signatures, and rigging the game for their butt boy Romney.
Seriously, I am an inch away from leaving the Republican party.
Sort of the reverse of that recount in Alaska that put Lisa Murkowski back in the Senate. Alaskan law required perfect spelling of a write-in candidate's name, yet the "judge" allowed anything in the ballpark to get that cow re-elected.
I guess RINO is the wrong term. He is definitely a republican... straight from the establishment. He is full of typical accounting tricks, crony appointments, toll roads (except N VA who gets free roads at everyone else’s expense), high speed rail, and agenda 21. He has done a decent job bringing in jobs and businesses, I’ll give him that, but he isnt a tea party conservative.
Virgina is Open Primary and solid Blue State.
No one is running against "The Won."
I wonder what all those donk voters will be doing during the primary election...
No wonder the commies are not allowing anyone a serious shot against bammy in the primaries. No one running against little bammy frees up the donks to vote Mittwitt, who will either lose to bammy or become bammie lite if elected.
.
We need to get together and not dissolve in despair as Rush rightly warned before he left.
...while Mitt passes out Cuban cigars to the VA GOP.
In Virginia primaries, the party apparatus reserves the right to automatically discard any write-ins and not even bother to count them.
You are an unstable person.
there state rules for getting on the ballot is horrid. Heard them read today....
