In committee, the Dems have the advantage and my understanding is that in committee - everything can be advanced on simple majority vote.
Now, having said that, the witches of Maine are a huge fricking problem.
>> The Wall Street Journal influences politics how? >>
With due respect, if you are asking that in seriousness - you and I understand politics on totally different planes - therefore it is fruitless for us to continue a dialogue.
Merry Christmas.
Hello Mr. Scrooge, I see that you are a very kind gentleman. :-)
usually that is true, but there are special situations (I was told that this was one of those instances but do not grasp the arcane minutia of the worlds greatest deliberative body) where there must be at least one vote from a minority member in order to move the legislation along.
Unfortunately the Freaking Witches are symptomatic of The Bipartisan Left having something like an 85/15 majority in The Senate.
Seriously, I do not think the nation can be retained in any semblance of what you and I would like. Hence my active planning and actions to escape The Logic Free Zone.
I can only hope the FL Tea Party that you claim to represent does not support capitulation and the weakness observed in ALL of the members of the GOP house.
I think guys like Gowdy waive the Tea Party flag when its politically convenient for them. I fail to see much difference between the majority of them and the so called establishment. They all are cut from the same cloth and this vote proves it. Guys like Gowdy are just better are at talking the conservative talk to their constituents than guys like McConnell.
No difference.
I should clarify....guys like Gowdy jump up and down and make a spectacle to try to gain favor from conservatives. In the end they always capitulate to Boehner and the Dems. It’s all for political show.
All of these guys are the same....some are just better at fooling conservatives than others.
Geez, what an intelligent response.
Care to explain how Trey Gowdy did not wimp out?
He criticizes McConnell appropriately for not standing on principle and then this Dumbo Gowdy turns around and votes “yea”. I can hear the raucous laughter from here over this display of complete lack of gray matter.
Let me correct myself. Trey Gowdy is not only a WIMP for not standing on principle, he is also DUMB AS A STUMP!
I guess you’re saying that Mitch can stand on principle because he’s a “leader”. If that’s the case, I wonder exactly how long and how high up the ladder does Gowdy think one must be to stand on principle?
However, Gowdy says the senate, not the senate “leaders”, should stand on principle. Can you blitheringly understand that?
I’ll say it one more time so you may grasp it. Gowdy tells the SENATE, not just the ML, to stand on principle. But he doesn’t do it himself.
Trying to have a discussion with you is like trying to have a discussion with a democrat. It’s a blithering waste of time.
I am typing very slowly so that you can understand. Basically your entire argument ignores the entire reality of leadership and authority and the notion that leaders in every walk of life have a higher responsiblity because they have more authority.
Since you ignore that reality of all of life, you and I are done here. Go enjoy your irrelevant purity.
Well hell - then we’re left with two options.
A: we’re screwed and nothing matters.
B: we put you in charge, because you are the only wind driven snow pure and perfect person on the planet.
Which should I assume will happen?
Excellent. Boehner’s failure is that he cannot get on message, stay on message and get that message out. In the House, you have a huge disadvantage over the EO, but it isn’t insurmountable.
That’s the singular attraction of Newt for me, his Contract with America realized the trouble Congress, particularly the House, faces. He solved it, but since has drifted all over the place looking for relevancy. He’s not even on the Illinois ballot yet.
I am concerned and believe most Americans are stupid or do not care. Maybe both!
Trey
Gowdy
Ping!
Want on or off this ping list? Just drop me a FReep mail.
No kidding! The pubbies don't do finesse worth a crap.
They are not taxes. In fact, everyone takes out more than they put in. That’s why it’s going broke. The gov’t must IOU every dollar they take out to pay general fund items, to they put in pieces of paper.
Futility, futility, futility.
Only 25 rinos in rino-safe districts need vote with the democrats, and those who would choose to hide their non-support could have done so.
They only INITIATE money bills which must originate in the House. They don’t control what takes place afterwards.
Then it goes to the Senate, which can amend away every single word the House wrote, if the Senate so chooses. Then the 2 versions (or 1 redacted) go to conference committee where an agreeable bill or nothing comes out.
Then they play political games to see who has the most power. As always, 2 trumps 1. The House can force nothing.
At the same time, TR, I want what you want. The only way the House can win that kind of war, though, is to have forwarded something Americans want so much that Senate, President, and media cannot sway them.
That is rare.
