Reid Hopes Payroll Tax Cut Debacle a ‘Learning Experience’ for House Freshman

In session for a whopping 1 minute, 28 seconds, the Senate today passed by unanimous consent the updated, slightly tweaked version of the two-month payroll tax cut extension.

Hailing this as a “new day,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., celebrated and then appointed, as the compromise called for, his designees for the conference committee to negotiate a year-long payroll tax deal. The appointees are: Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont.; Ben Cardin, D-Md.; Jack Reed, D-R.I.; and Bob Casey, D-Pa.

,,,,,

Reid left with departing messages to Republicans: His message to the Republican leader in the Senate should really be interpreted as for the House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio: ”Most everything we do around here is based on trust,” Reid said. “That’s how we get things done. And I want everyone to understand how much I appreciate Mitch McConnell sticking by the arrangement, the agreement that we made. ”

What "trust"? The Senate Rats and RINOs have hung the House GOP out to dry everytime.

I am totally conviced McConnell and the other Senate RINOs are working for Obama's reelection.

Dingy Harry is going to reneg on any “deal” he made, and then the stenographers of the Washington press corpse will blame Republicans for it all. And the stupid sheeple will lap it up like thirsty dogs at a water dish.

As I understand it the issue with the House and Senate came down to this: The House wanted a 1 year extension
The Senate wanted a 2 month extension.

Now which actually sounds better?

The MSM reports this as follows: The House is threatening to allow taxes to increase rather than compromising with the Dems. Bad, bad GOP.

Assuming for the moment that the Senate wanted 1 year and the House wanted 2 months the MSM would report EXACTLY THE SAME THING. It would the GOP hanging things up.

This is simply the state of affairs that we live in with an MSM, recently joined by Fox News, that controls public opinion to a very large extent and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party. They are very hard to buck in an election year. That's life. It will take a long time to stop that train and turn it around.

Exactly. I'm done with the GOP. They have offered us RINO stew for long enough now.

At this point in time, it doesn't matter if Obama gets reelected or not because the RINOs will still sellout the Conservatives.

I sure wish Pinky would teach them his lesson on how he made the lights go out in Nevada and come back on with him in the lead.

Maybe one of these days Harry will get taught a lesson about the value and kindness, honesty, and humility.

Probably won’t happen until he dies and passes to the place much hotter than Nevada.

In other words....You Tea Party types that think you can change the way we big wigs do things in Washington,DC now know how the Gov’t is REALLY run. We Democrats and the establishment Republicans we allow to share power decide everything and you should know your place....So listen to the RINO’s in your party and now one gets hurt! -(Dingy Harry) Reid.

No matter how it's sliced, it's a win for Obama and Reid with the assistance of McConnell.

I'll bet. Lesson one, never trust a democrat. Lesson two never trust a RINO. Lesson three, remember who put you there.

I apologize for this vanity but I have got to ask: Am I the only one who thinks that the coverage of this payroll tax extension was such that there was NO WAY THE REPUBLICANS could come out on top of this?

Not only that but NO ONE INCLUDING CONSERVATE COMMENTATORS is noticing this?

Everyone is playing this like the “stupid Republican” screwed up again!

Again I expect this coverage from the media but what is surprising is no one is mentioning the coverage made it impossible for the republicans to win.

Boehner, Ryan and Cantor were talking until they practically needed resuscitation but their words got ZERO coverage.

We can criticize Boehner and the house Pubbies but really the way the press covered this there was no way to win this thing. We had better get used to this as this agreement guarantees this will come up every few months.

They might be expected to only renew this for a few weeks or days with coverage like this to keep this in news getting fawning coverage for the ‘RATs!

They would have covered Kennedy’s accident like Teddie was helping a Chappaquiddick girl in trouble. With the coverage of this payroll extension, if I were Teddie up in heaven right now I’d be asking where is my award!?!

I don’t think the Pubbies are to blame for this. They don’t control the media coverage which was insanely lopsided on this issue.

That is not unexpected but what is surprising is that no one seems to have noticed this include conservative commentators on our side.

No matter how it's sliced, it's a win for Obama and Reid with the assistance of McConnell.

Get used to it until we take over the Senate and the Presidency. At this point the only option that is available to counter the propaganda put out by the MSM is paid commercial advertising. That's it - a totally impractical solution. And we have essentially no allies within the MSM to get the message out particularly since, IMHO, Fox News has more or less abandoned us.

I don't see any near term solution to this problem. I really don't.

BINGO!!

This admonition by Harry Reid is proof of his mind-set. He is not in office to serve his constituents - his raison d’etre is ego-centric power and control.

His attitude, behavior and comments are un-American.

How does he ever get elected? Are voters in Nevada that dumb?

Very well stated and definitely one of the best post I've seen.

We keep hanging our hats on the hope that the RINOs will back us up but in the end we are always disappointed.

In other words....You Tea Party types that think you can change the way we big wigs do things in Washington,DC now know how the Gov’t is REALLY run.

And yet the Tea Party caucus completely caved as well. As best I can tell not a single Tea Party Republican voiced objection to House passage today. In fact, I believe it was done via unanimous voice vote that could have been blocked by a single conservative Republican.

Face it, politics is politics. No matter who we send up there, they are going to have to deal with political realities and learn when and how to pick their battles. Rage all you want, but the next batch of grass roots conservatives elected will do the same exact thing if the politics of an issue goes against them.

I don't know what the Conservative House freshmen learned but they should have learned as I have that the Republicans like their brethren the Democrats absolutely hate conservatives and will screw them (us) over at any opportunity.
I know that I have been slow to learn and quick to forget, but I think I have finally learned my lesson. Independents or third parties is all I am voting for in the future.

That’s how we get things done.

We kick the can 2 months further down the road.

Is this what he said when he and Pelosi controlled both houses in 2010 and decided to not even try working on a budget?

Wouldn’t be the first time. These guys are professional looser more interested in getting along in Washington than saving the country. It’s about them not us, the citizenry....

The Republican party needs to go the way of the Wigs. Currently they are the only party that is more interested in impressing the other parties constituents than serving their own.
